| | Secrets Of the City [Van.] tours < on 5/10/2005 6:48 AM >
| | | Anyone gone on one of these? Looks like it could be interesting, or it could really suck. I'm guessing here: The 'on the rail' will be a tour of the tunnel under the Beatty Armoury. The 'sending mail' clue will be a tour of the Post Office tunnel The 'retail flare' is the old Woodwards building? Any other ideas? :: FROM : http://www.vanmuse...ent_excursions.htm

| | | 20 bucks isn't too bad, why not check it out for yourself? You could always show up the tour guide with UE knowledge and know-how!

| | | I just got back from the "Sending mail" tour and have got to say "caveat emptor" to anyone thinking of going on these tours. Last month they walked through the post office tunnel all the way to Waterfront station. So, that's pretty awesome and I was definitely disappointed that I missed it. Where did we go on Saturday? The Purolator warehouse in Richmond. 21 bucks to tour around a corporate facility? I'm so getting my money back. I could have just called up the company on my own and gone in for a tour of the facility if I was really interested in that aspect of the mail courier business, and it would have been free. There was nothing heritage, secret or historical about it. I'd have been more than willing to pay for a historical tour of something that I wouldn't be able to get in to see otherwise. Purolator? I don't think so. Just wanted to let everyone know, the tour could be great or it could be a ridiculous waste of money. I'm not sure how to tell, since they won't disclose where you are going before hand. UE or a little soc. engineering is probably a better bet if you are interested in the "secrets of the city".

What? I'm not supposed to be here?

| | | A friend of mine was talking to one of the guides for these tours (or some like them) and said that he'd be willing to do a special tour for some of us on the tunnels and what-not in the Vancouver (Gastown specifically) area. We were thinking of maybe doing it sometime in August, if we can get enough people to make it worthwhile for the guide. I think some of these tours could be pretty handy, even if it's places you've already explored, it's always nice to know some of the history behind it. Cheers! -PoT

| | | Hey PoT, I'd be into going on a tour with a guide, if you have room in your group and I can get the day off work. Let me know if you do end up doing that. Is the guy your friend was talking to named John? He seems pretty cool, really into heritage stuff (he wasn't on the Purolator fiasco tour), so he'd probably give an interesting tour.

| | | Yeah we should have enough room. I'm not sure if it was John he was talking to, I know it was a guy that was giving a walking tour of Gastown though. It's sort of going to be organized through the Vancouver Urban Exploration group @ Meetup.com http://urbanexplor.meetup.com/31/ They tried to organize it once before but it tanked. The group has been totally dead as the former organizer didn't have time to do anything really, so I've taken over, I don't have much time either, but we'll see if we can get a couple meetings going. We've been discussing via email possible dates and such, looking at probably into August though. Cheers! -PoT

| | | You can also arrange meets through uer, there's a link on the main page, and it will automatically send a message out to explorers in your region...
