Lockpicking

Hey, first post, woot! Anyways, I have been reading some info about lock picking recently, very cool stuff. I am just curious about the legality of owning a set of picks in Ontario, I've been trying to look up any laws about it online but haven't had much luck yet. If anyone could tell me what the law is, or even better send me a link of the exact text, it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. There isn't a law against owning lock picking tools as far as I can tell, but it's definitely not something you want to be caught with. Lockpicks are considered break-and-enter tools, and if you go exploring and the police catch you and search you and find them, you will most likely get in trouble. I would suggest staying aways from caring around anything that can be considered a tool or a weapon, like crowbars. Besides, it's more fun looking for ways in that aren't meant to have people go through, like air ducts and windows. The exploration is part of the fun. If you have any questions about other such tools and what we think of them, I think there should be an old thread somewhere on the forum that should answer most of your questions.

Some never participate. Life happens to them. They get by on little more than dumb persistence and resist with anger or violence all things that might lift them out of resentment-filled illusions of security.

Thanks a lot for the info! It's pretty much what I thought, and about what I read. (For anyone interested it's section 351 of the criminal code, here's a link: http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-46/41558.html#section-351). I have very little plan of bringing the picks into a building with me, I've never had use for them up till now, but if I were to find a particularly interesting door in a building, on a second trip I might condiser bringing them. For now it's just a hobby to do in my spare time though, the more you know, the more you have at your disposal.

It's pretty easy to pick some locks but not all. The quickest advice for picking, inmy opinion, is using a screw driver and paperclip (possibly something more heavy) and pushing up all the pins which cause the lock to be reset of something and you use the screw driver to turn and open it. I have only done it with those cheezy locks with the key that you can attach to stuff...
