Not sure if anyone caught this or not, here's a copy of the article from the Tri City News:

Ioco program to move to two other schools

By Kate Trotter
The Tri-City News
Apr 30 2005

The third oldest school in the Tri-Cities is being de-commissioned with the move of an alternative program.
Ioco school's programs will be moved to Gleneagle and Dr. Charles Best secondary schools in September.
They are currently housed in the 1921 wood-frame building that was the school for Ioco. When the Imperial Oil Company refinery was built, there was no road transportation to the remote location, and employees and families lived outside the refinery gates in a small town with a store, community hall and tidy little workers' cottages.
Dave Taylor, principal of School District 43's two alternative programs, which are for students who do not thrive in larger schools, said a pilot program at Terry Fox secondary this year was successful, paving the way for the Ioco move. "The goal for alternative programs is to integrate students if possible, especially for traditional electives," he said. The program will have a home base in Gleneagle and Best but students will no longer be isolated from shop, art and other non-academic resources. The move, Taylor said, "is for all the positive reasons."
Alternative programs began in the district when schools were overcrowded - Taylor noted that the the Ioco program began in a basement - and it has been at the little green and white schoolhouse for at least 20 years, probably longer. Now that there is room at secondary schools, the students can be accommodated there.
The program enrolls students from all over the district and, for some, a three-bus, one-hour commute to school (and home again) will be over.
Ioco is the smallest school in the district, which has no immediate plans for it, said SD43 spokesperson Cheryl Quinton. Its fate is entwined with that of the Ioco townsite, which is a heritage conservation area but not identified as a historic site.

Sad to see that they're no longer going to be using the old building. I just hope that it doesn't fall into disrepair. The building is still in beautiful shape. Maybe some UE possibilities in the future....

It's part of the Imperial Oil Co. townsite in Port Moody (called Ioco). If you look on the Wraiths site there have been explorations done on some of the remaining homes on the site. It was a company town, with the school, 2 churches, community hall, store and a whole bunch of houses. The residents worked in the oil refinery next door. Check it out if you can, it's on the north shore of the Burrard Inlet in Port Moody, I think it's a beautiful place. It still has several houses, the store, and community hall (all boarded up). One church remains on the site, the United Church, which remains active and is a neat little building. I guess the school will be active till Summer, then closed down. I'd like to have a look in the school, if it's anything like the church, it should have some nice hardwood flooring and big old growth timbers used in the framing and building construction.
