| | | Satellite phones have a LOT less signal margin than cell phones. I am not aware of ANY satellite phone service that will work without a direct line of sight to the sky. Although cell phone companies will claim that cell phones "aren't designed for use inside buildings," they obviously do usually work there. I have personally tested Iridium and Globalstar satellite phones and was unable to use them from inside even a single-story wood frame house. If I pointed the antenna out of a window, I could sometimes get a call to connect for 15-20 seconds, but then the satellite would go out of "sight" and the call would drop.
If you don't want it known, don't say it on a phone. |
