| | | Here are 2 links to information about the Chicago freight tunnels, which were in business until 1959. The movie "Blues Brothers" imitated the tunnels on a Hollywood set. http://www.amerite...unnel/tunnel1.html
http://www.chipubl...text/tunnel/1.html Illinois Rwy. Museum in East Union has a website page about how they recovered one of the trains more than 40 years later. I'll try to post that link another time.

| | | Currently, the CDOT people are preparing my legal entry/background check package so that I can gain access in June. It only took 4 emails over the course of two months to initiate this.

| | | Now those look like some tunnels worthy of finding a back way into. Has anyone heard of other explorers that have found a way into these old tunnels?
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, cigar in one hand, favorite drink in the other, body thouroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO-HOOO----WHAT A RIDE!!!" |

| | | It was pretty easy before September 11th!! Now, everything is welded shut. Also, many of the entrances are being obliterated by new construction. Chuck http://www.geocities.com/chucksphotospot

| | | yeah, no permits were needed. Just a crowbar and a few rubber boots. I saw your question on the deep tunnel on the yahoo board. you can see giant vents all along the north branch along rohan and river park. I use to go to school around there so I always wondered what they were there for. [last edit 5/28/2005 3:03 AM by sympathy in chaos - edited 1 times]

| | | I was lucky enough to get to explore the CFT tunnels once. Some of the CUE people went back a second time later on. Very extensive system, although pretty much every tunnel looks alike.
I want to be different. But I want to be different just like everybody else, because if I really were different, everybody would think I was crazy and weird. Iowa is Minnesota's bitch. There's an art to pooping. |

| | | From the old pictures I have seen of it they did have signs for what street you were under.. But I couldn't tell ya if they are still there.. I think if you kept a very close look on where you were and what turns you took/how many rail you cross you should be able to keep track of where you are, but it is massive.. and I think it'd be pretty easy even if paying attention to lose track.. But ya can't say it wouldn't be fun... *grin*
