Howdy, Name=Ferg. All of this is new to me but very very interesting. I live in Traverse City, MI and I haven't really explored anything here yet. I wsa born in Greenville MI, explored a couple of drains there. Soon there will be a huge abandoned building in Greenville, cause the Frigidare plant there sold out and is moving to Mexico.
But I have been contemplating an old asylum, this place is so big I might get lost, but it will be definitely worth it.

every pic i have taken of this place seems to intrigue me more and more

The taint of age can be very beautiful. The wreckage of man-made objects is something more beautiful than the new. Rust and weathering adds a patina of . . . well, I call it 'elegant shit' or 'elegant gorp'. -Brett Weston

Hi, my name is Greg, i just joined this site last week. I was raised in the suburbs of Chicago, and still live there today. I basically share the same thoughts as Jason1977 said. I love exploring abandoned buildings, houses, properties, just to see why they are like that way. Been to a lot of locations in the chicagoland area that are either abandoned or closed down. Have recently found some new places, one place i cannot find. The best places Ive been too was probably the closed down Lakehurst mall (torn down), and Shireland amusement park. Would love to check out any old asylums, dunno any around here. There was a cool abandoned factory around here but some punks decided to vandalize and it got locked up. Love the site, hopefully will be able to find new places and meet new people.

hi, i'm ben from mpls.
i'm not really an urban explorer, but i'm interested in what you guys (and girls) explore, and i like reading about your exploits. i've met a couple of locals and have probably annoyed twice as many with my questions about exploring. (that's not a lot of people, and my annoyance wasn't intentional). i'm still learning about the etiquette concerning what to ask and what not to ask, and hopefully i'm doing better than i was before. i tried getting on the local website forum, but that didn't work, so here i am. if any locals are willing to chat with a kid about exploring, i'm all ears. i don't care about location information and the like, i can do, and have done, the research myself.

oh, and i go to south high, and i'm a junior. yes, i'm a minor. i like going out and "exploring," but i keep it pretty casual. photography is cool; that photo is from the train bridge over the river. i'll be taking classes at the u of m spring semester, and so i'll have more frequent access to sites near downtown and the river. yeap. that's about it.

well, my name is actually supposed to be benagain, but i messed it up and now i'm stuck with my aim screen name for two months. woo hoo.

Hi. D8a (aka Mark) from South Bend Indiana area. Haven't been active in *years* but started yesterday with recon and edging around one of the old Studebaker sites, as well as a currently unused steel conversion facility. If there's anyone in this area that's interested in being active, I'd love to hear from you. My companion yesterday was scared to go in anything, scared to climb, and convinced we were going to end up in jail. And would let me climb the water tower we were by either There's a ton of good stuff in the area (Kingsbury munitions site is only 45 minutes away) but a lot of it will go the way of the recent Rink Riverside building, so we need to grab it while we can.

Life's short. Live fast, die hard.

thanks for the greeting, GreyKat. your post reminds me of the Davy Crockett song ("killed him a 'bar'"). Anyway, the cities sound like a good place, I swing up there from time to time, but I have no idea of what's up there as far as ue shit. recommendations for when i'm there next? (be specific, i'm not incredibly familiar with the area.)

Thanks

Hey all. I'm Mingles from Iowa. Haven't been to this site in ages due to a now 10 month old keeping me a wee bit busy. Doesn't make much time for UEing either, but those things will happen again.

Kinda suprised that I'm only the second Iowan on here (besides SlimJim, that is). Apparently we really are that boring here. Eh, oh well. Such is life. Anyway, I'm glad to be back on the boards again, even if it is just to lurk for the time being.

Edit for lapse of grammar...

I think I must have missed the connection: why are you on UER?

Greetings, folks. My name is David, I live in Oxford, Ohio. I've only been officially introduced to UE by your site/forum. I wonder if anyone else lives around the TriState (SW Ohio/SE Ind/N Kent) that can show me some cool sites.

Hey all. I live in Minneapolis (right by the East Bank of the U) and work at IKEA. I'm pretty new to UE, though I've thirsted for it all my life. Why didn't anyone ever tell me that other people wanted to explore stuff too? (None of my friends ever wanted to explore anything. They just wanted to get where they were going as quickly as possible.)

Anyways, other than work (full time) my schedule is extremely open, and I'd love to start meeting my friendly neighbors and getting to know the area. I can't wait to see the steam tunnels here! Drop me a line here or hit me up on AIM (Flynot13). Peace.

Greetings! The names Andy, aka ninjasaurus.

I'm from southwestern Michigan, the Coloma/Benton Harbor area if you're familiar with it. I recently explored a enormous 'abandoned' factory in my area. However this building isn't so abandoned and still has power on the bottom floors as well as several motion-detector alarms :\ I'd call this one of my first big adventures for particular reasons... My 2 close friends and I checked this place out after I'd stumbled upon it few weeks prior. We conquered about 80% of this building before setting off an alarm on the 1st floor (its 3 stories, 2 buildings that are connected) As we left the building with the alarm still screaming... We were a little discouraged considering the entire time we thought the building was completely vacant. The next day however, we felt ballsy and returned to find the alarm silent but still armed. We found the main entrance and security panel, along with a few logs from security guard services stating they came to check tripped alarms to find nothing. The last log was 2 weeks prior to our initial visit, so we weren't very worried.

Once again we explored more of the building, avoiding a few more rooms that had alarms in them until we stumbled upon an unsuspecting alarm that forced us to pack up and leave once again. Instead of driving away, I parked down the main road from the factory, curious to see if any and how fast security guards would show. Nothing for 30 minutes. We then went BACK in the factory, taking the safe route to the security panel. We wanted to review the logs again to double check the log times. Apparently the guard logged that it only took him 10 minutes to thoroughly check BOTH buildings. Rightttt. It would take 20 minutes just to check the first building!! Anyway....

On the second floor, above a staircase that leads down to the security panel on the first floor, we hear someone unlocking a door below us and rustling around. All three of us froze, listening carefully as the person pressed a few keys on the security key pad and began to ascend the staircase we were standing over. We KNEW what was happening... and all starting creeping to the opposite side of the looooong empty 2nd floor. After about 10 seconds of creeping we randomly burst into full a sprint to the adjacent staircase to the exit. Shutting doors behind us we ran like hell and took off in my car. We doubled back shortly after to see that no security vehicles were in sight. The only vehicle was a pickup truck with a woman and 2 children loading pumpkins from a trailer into the truck. I assume they were selling the pumpkins out of the parking lot of this factory, and the person that entered the building was the this womans husband, and likely the owner of the building.

Wow. I dragged the hell out of that. Regardless, I've always been an adventurous person for as long as I can remember. As a kid growing up on 40 acres of old farmland and woods, everyday was a new journey; leaving no stone or log unturned. Ontop of all of this property, right beside me was an abandoned house (from the late 1960's I believe) that i was able to explore freely. I have an undying love for Mother Nature and everything outdoors as well as photographing it. I've explored several abandoned residences and small rundown plants in my area. I hope to add plenty more to my small list

UER is probably the best site i've come across in a long time, and I simply cannot wait to attend my first event (North Central Indiana Meet; created by nightbird) to meet some fellow explorers and to check out some more sites!

I suck at conclusions, and this post is DEFINATELY longer than I expected - It's probably better that its moved or I just edit all of this out hahah.. Anyway. Hope to meet some of you in the future and make a handful of friends in the process!

hello all!

im ben, aka: infinity. i hail from the bartlett/hanover park/elgin area, about an hour west of chicago, and maybe 10-15 minutes from Elgin Mental Hospital. i have been into UE for some time now, but just came across this site and im loving it! i would really like to explore a lot more buildings and such in my area, but all i explore is what i stumble across, and you have to be a trusted member to view any DB entries that havent previously been torn down. i am definitely up for meeting anyone in my area on weekends or later evenings for some exploring and photography with my wife and i.

hit me up to chat and whatnot, i am very eager to become a trusted member, i recently explored a residential abandonment by my house and have some pretty cool photos, but i cant create a new DB location unless i am...well...accepted.

safe and happy exploring to the lot of you!
ciao!

Leo2: Yeah, its really nice...until we find three dead strangers in an...abandoned...thing.
