I'm an Iowa Stater, too. Haven't done the rope access thing yet, my interest is sparked.
|
Rope access? meaning you throw ropes up and climb up three stories? Never heard of that before...

| | | Basically, rope access is going places with ropes (and other climbing-type technical gear) that you can't access through normal means. Be it throwing grapples and climbing the rope (generally a bad idea, VERY dangerous), or rappelling from a high point to a lower one, or any other approach. Great fun if you can do it safely, stupid as hell if you can't. An example from a few years ago: Say I'm on top of an old water tower. There's a hole in the top, but no ladder down. How do I get inside? a) Jump down the hole (bad) b) Haul a ladder up to the top and lower it in (bad) c) Lower myself on a rope, and then climb the rope back out when I'm done. (easy, given the right equipment)

| | | I'm SnS. Since I rarely leave this city, I do all of my exploring in Rockford, IL. It's a decent sized city, somewhere in teh 160,000 range. Since most of the city expanded outward from the river district, there are plenty of cool buildings left to explore. Personally, I prefer exploring drainage tunnels more than anything. Everywhere I lived as a child had numerous tunnels near them, so I don't have problems crouching through them for hours. Right after tunnels, I enjoy exploring abandoned buildings since the city is full of them. I've only recently put together a group of ragtags to scout the city and it's many sites. Hopefully I'll get some photos tonight or this week.

| | | Wow, just found this. I'm Grey, about two or so months into UE and doing Parkour on a regular basis as well. Currently a little frustrated with the locations Madison has to offer but will soon be relocating to Milwaukee.

| | | Hi there. Name's wing nut. New to this site, but have been exploring for a while now. I hail from the central Ohio area, so I have done most of major exploring in Columbus. I've got to say, this is one of the most active UE forums around. Hope I can contribute some useful info. Anyone in my area who wants to meet up sometime, give me a message.

| | | Hi, I'm from the Lansing and Detroit areas of Michigan. My boyfriend have been exploring for about a year. We've never really tunneled; tend to stick to abandoned (or mostly abandoned) schools, factories, power plants, train stations, etc and always looking for more.

| | | Hi. I moved to Minneapolis for college a year ago. I came from Des Moines where I use to get into old farm houses with my Dad. I have gotten into a few places around the Twin Cities with my friends. I love using the inspiration I get and the photography in my art. Looking forward to being active in this community and contributing pictures and information.
