| | | | New locations in the Ontario database < on 4/19/2005 2:37 AM >
| | | Fedge and I went out on another 8 hour UE tour. We visited many places, a couple not worth a database entry. Here is one place we visited that was totally gutted and the only things left was a bathtub and smashed toilet.
The two locations I added to the LDB are: This place has to be the worst house we have ever visited. Thousands of empty catfood cans, and the smell will kill you. http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=22882 This house had a major fire. Probably arson from what we discovered in the kitchen. http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=22881 Enjoy. [last edit 4/19/2005 2:38 AM by IanK1968 - edited 1 times]

| | | Greetings! For the Vaughan Cat House that IanK1968 just posted to the LDB, I just added a couple bonus pics: http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=22882 Just around the bend on a narrow dirt road from the Vaughan Cat House is, appropriately enough, the Neighbour of the Vaughan Cat House. The former owners here didn't own any cats, or if they did at least they had enough self-respect and dignity to not live in squalor: http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=22873 16th Avenue dream house #1 When a developer gets their new subdivision built and homes sold to hopeful new families, there are usually a few straggler old-school houses that have survived the inevitable demo crews to live another day. This is one such home, a Richmond Hill bungalow on 16th Avenue just south of the David Dunlap Observatory: http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=22871 16th Avenue dream house #2 Just west of #1 is another little bungalow on busy 16th Avenue in Richmond Hill. What baffles me is that kids were playing just down the street a few hundred feet in an "active" house's front yard and both dream house #1 and #2 are wide open access for potentially deadly makeshift playground kiddie fun: http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=22872 Just north of Scarborough, in the southeast corner of Markham is a road called 9th Line. There's 10th and 11th Lines too but I have no idea where the hell 1st through 8th Lines are. They probably were renamed or don't exist these days. Anyways, for many months IanK1968 and I have driven by two homes on 9th Line that lie side-by-side at the end of a long dirt driveway. Well, we finally used the beautiful April 17th sunny and warm weather to officially UE these structures before the developer razes them into history. Here is 9th Line abandoned house #1: http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=22874 ...and here, predictably enough, is the sequel - 9th Line abandoned house #2: http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=22875 As I mentioned above, Sunday the 17th was a beautiful day - perfect for exploring. We had to balance the desire to wear less clothes in the heat versus the need to wear enough clothes so we didn't shred our bodies on broken glass and protruding nails of death. We parked near the Keele Street and Major MacKenzie Drive intersection and found around half a dozen abandoned and accessible buildings, including a corner store that has a secret hallway that leads to the neighbouring apartment. Here are a few images:
Here's a Richmond Hill house in the middle of an industrial area near Yonge and 16th Avenue. This is quite possibly the best "board job" I've ever seen. Nobody's getting into this place:
A view of the Darlington nuke facility in Bowmanville taken from high atop the upper Darlington soccer fields (quite a beautiful view of Lake Ontario from here too, located at Park Road and 2nd Line West, if you're inclined).
I wonder what the deal is that this modest house in Clarington had to be fenced off with barbed wire at the top. Hmmmmmmmm...
Ironically enough, Ian Lovell is a member of the jury on Michael Jackson's current court case:
Yep, there's a story to go along with the next two pics. And I guarantee you it ain't a pretty one. These pics are shot "as is", no prop setting or planning. The barn belongs to a new-ish home that will be in the LDB in the coming weeks.
As always, thank you for tuning in to the exploring adventures of IanK1968 and myself. We occasionally get scarlett to join us and we will hopefully get a fourth member to our group shortly. We strive to bring you plenty of fun UE adventures this summer, so rev up your Level 3 and enjoy the fun! [last edit 4/19/2005 8:16 AM by fedge - edited 3 times]

Went to both today for a quick look, despite the rain. I added some more pics for both. Not terribly exciting, but it's all good. -Octane

I thought as much. But I wonder, since it's so accepted now, will 9th - 11th Lines ever be re-named to "real" names?

| | | 10th line and 11th line might.. but i cant see 9th line ever being renamed. its already being engulfed by suburbia and once all those street signs are posted, its kinda hard to change a street name, plus 9th line is alot longer then the others, streching far north past aurora sideroad.

OK, here's my try...
OLD NAME = CURRENT NAME 1st Line = Yonge Street 2nd Line = Bayview Avenue 3rd line = Leslie Street 4th Line = Woodbine Avenue 5th Line = Warden Avenue 6th Line = Kennedy Road 7th Line = McCowan Road 8th Line = Markham Road 9th Line = 9th Line 10th Line = Reesor Road (as you go north to the town of Stouffville it becomes 10th Line) 11th Line = 11th Concession
Then, for added fun in this pointless thread: 1st Avenue = Lakeshore Blvd. (?) 2nd Avenue = 3rd Avenue = 4th Avenue = 5th Avenue = Kingston Road west of Kennedy Road, Dundas Street (there is a hair salon at Kingston Road and Victoria Park Avenue named 5th Avenue) 6th Avenue = Bloor Street, Danforth Avenue 7th Avenue = St. Clair Avenue 8th Avenue = Eglinton Avenue 9th Avenue = Lawrence Avenue 10th Avenue = Wilson Avenue, York Mills Road, Ellesmere Road 11th Avenue = Sheppard Avenue 12th Avenue = Finch Avenue 13th Avenue = Steeles Avenue 14th Avenue = 14th Avenue 15th Avenue = Highway 7 16th Avenue = 16th Avenue, aka Carrville Road, aka Rutherford Road 17th Avenue = Major MacKenzie Drive (is actually signed as 17th Avenue in east Markham) 18th Avenue = aka Teston Road, aka Elgin Mills Road 19th Avenue = 19th Avenue, aka Gamble Road 20th Avenue = Stouffville Road, Main Street (?) 21st Avenue = Besthesda Sideroad (?)
Sorry, I'm a city planner in my dreamworld. Plus, I'm bored. [last edit 4/21/2005 8:03 AM by fedge - edited 1 times]

| | | Kingston Rd was the 2nd. (Hwy 2) and Bloor was the 5th. (Hwy 5) It was William Berczy who cleared land in the 1790's for Yonge St. in Markham that established the equal 1.25 mile distance between concession roads in the 905 area and north Toronto. He built Yonge St. as far north as Bond lake.

...Wow... I have an Audi I bought and need to pick up in that area, I should make it a multi purpose trip. I noticed one really neat abandoned house right on the west corner of keele & major mac the last time I was there.

| | | Good work, Octane! I must have driven by these houses many times... bandi: That intersection and surrounding area is full of abandoned buildings. Slowly though the neighborhood is being transformed into a very busy shopping area.

1st would probably have been Queen St, formerly Lot St, which was the baseline from which all of the other concessions in the old City of Toronto and northward from there were measured

Then I had some fun in hamilton at the Lyric theatre. Heres my lightpainting gallery. http://www.uer.ca/...=20134&galid=15133
And recently a few of us visited the power plant in niagara falls.. I created a private location DB posting for it. http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=22907

Good place to add them! ;) A fine batch of locations, RW. I love the Niagara one! It's amazing how a facility like this can just be dropped and forgotten. At least plenty of tourists get to see it every day when they view the falls.

| | | Just a mere few blocks from my own home, when kids in north Bowmanville wanna party, they head to the corner of Liberty and Longworth. It appears well boarded from the front view but the kids know better. This house will be pulled down to extend Longworth eastward to Mearns and the new subdivisions out by Camp X.

Yeah, getting in was so easy I didn't even have to put my camera away - I climbed in with the aid of just one hand. Check out the back entry "stairway" which includes an upside down auto seat, among others.

That other house on Liberty and Longworth isn't too exciting though. EDIT: It's strange. I probably know you and have no idea. [last edit 5/1/2005 11:52 PM by TehTwinz0rs - edited 1 times]
