|  | | | One time a few friends and myself were walking down the street at night and like idiots we decided that we would try not to get seen by any more cars that drive past.
So I saw some headlights coming up to an intersection nearby and I bolted to the side of someones house and ducked behind their garbage in the darkness.
And as I look around I see my friends calmly walking down the sidewalk and the same car pull up directly in front of me in the driveway.
So I considered sprinting into the back yard and over their fence and through the neighbors yard.But I decided that if I could just wait for them to get into their house I'd never be seen and I woulnd't have to worry a grip of inocent people.
So there I was waiting behind a smelly can of trash as the family chatted about the birthday party they had just gotten home from, and just as I heard them walking toward the front door another car pulled up to the same house.
And thinking myself incredibly clever for not being discovered just feet away from a small group of people I figured that I'd peek out and see who it was that was pulling up.
That was almost a dangerous mistake because I saw a guy in his young twenties walking strait at the can with a paper bag in his hand.
And as soon as he pulled up the lid I hit a full sprint and sped down the block faster then I'd ever run before.
That guy had no idea I was there.
I bet I scared him half to death.

|  | | | I have close calls all the time. One thing that helps me is that I'm older, a bit fatter, and if you go out in utility clothes and a prop for your "purposes" you tend to look official on being where you're at. It's funny I don't get bothered / harrassed by people very often when I'm out and about when I'm on a site. Sometimes the best cloak is to be obvious. (Hey, look and be serious on what you're doing there!)
I expect to get caught and, from time to time, I'll purposely look for the gaurd or owner. Everybody has a front door on private property when you "want" to find somebody! Even if a NO TRESPASSING sign is up and you want information and you can't find nobody, you have to look for them. Just knock; bet you can't find them! Have a good alibi prepared before hand if you do run into them though. (Oh... don't do places with angry pit-bulls or other gaurd dogs. Take doggie treats / fresh cooked meat with you just in case. When Fido is busy eating, make the mad dash for it!)
This was an interesting one: I wanted to investigate an old abandoned house on a lot where the owner lived in a mobile home next to it. But he had a reputation of being very close-doored, armed, and grouchy. I had a silly thought and took a risk on crashing the abandoned house on this same lot the owner lived on. I've wanted to check out but was too afraid just to walk in casually. The wind was blowing kind of hard that day, and I thought, what if a dollar bill "flew" over THERE and I ran to catch it? With this, I pulled 3 dollar bills from my wallet and let them blow into the place where I wanted to look. My GOSH, my money blew away! I had to get it! As I went onto the property, I was promptly greeted by the owner (which I expected).
Owner: "What are YOU doing here? You're trespassing!"
me: "I know, I really apologize. I checked my wallet for cash and the wind blew some of my bills here. I lost 3 dollars. Hope you don't mind if I find them quickly?" (Fortunately, he could see one bills blown across the lot, then he hesitated for several seconds).
Owner: "Hurry!"
Then he went back inside! (I've been warned about him and he's had a reputation of being a grouch with a small arsenal). BUT- I had a chance to physically look around in cracks and cranny's for my dollars on his private property! I did pick them back up, shouted "thank you" to the owner, but now I have an idea of his environment and how to scout the place out later. Something I will do very very cautiously and pre-determined. No hard feelings, no ill will to be done.
To me, being directly caught without an alibi is a stupid thing. Curiosity always kills the cat, and it'll kill you too. Fortunately, we have brains to prevent being caught! Good luck all my fellow UE'ers!

| | | | I was never caught by officials but I had 2 encounters with people who were doing the same thing as I did, taking pictures. They tought they were caught since I always wear a military outfit. Wearing a military outfit already saved me a lot of trouble as people are less tempted to stick their noses into my actions.

| | | | When I was about 11 I had gone into my school on a weekend because me and my friends saw an open door. As we walked around the empty school, my friend had been trying different doors to classrooms that were locked. We did this for about 10 minutes when one of those doors he was checking swung open. With a surprise he kind of stumbled and a cop was sitting on a chair at the end of the room. The cop looked up at us and yelled "Hey!!". We bolted so fast from that door. As we split up I heard running from the halls, I only wanted the exit. Then, as I turned a corner, I ran into a large cop and bounced off. We had found out that they had been investigating a recent break-in. We got a warning and were sent home.
Other than that, I've only come very close. It took at least 7 years until I had heard what I did all the time was called "UE".

Me: "I've already told you, I'm doing some checks to make sure that this is safe to build on, ok?"
Him: "Don't you get funny with me mate! I'm the one who was told to look after this site"
Me: "Excuse me sir, but is that a threat?"
Him: "I'll give you threat in a minute!"
Me: *Gets out a radio* "Hi Jerry please respond"
Jerry: "Yep"
Me: "We've got a man here he's being threatening, claiming to be some sort of security guard."
Jerry: "I'll be right there"
Me: "Alright do you know where I am?"
Jerry: "Yeah shouldn't be a problem, I can see you from here"
Him: "Who are you talking to?"
Me: "Oh, that's Jerry, he's the security guard"
Him: "Don't think you can pull my leg like that do you?"
*Jerry walks up wearing a security guard uniform*
Jerry: "You alright? What seems to be the problem?"
Me: "This bloke here is being threatening."
Him: "I never threatened you"
Jerry: "Listen buddy, if you so much as come near this guy here I'll have you arrested understand?"
*Man walks away*
Him: "Yeah you'll be sorry for this"
Jerry: "Excuse me was that a threat?"
At this point the guy RAN back to his house!
We walked out of view, got a few more pictures and ran off.
We'd be to this site before and been threatened by this guy already, so it was fun to get our own back.
