Never mind, Google thinks Europe is on another planet altogether (and for that matter, most of the rest of the world too). All I see is water, so the map is only useful to North Americans.

Should I be scared? Are you guys going to sink the rest of the world and repopulate it with mutant clones of Kevin Costner? Is this a leaked map? (if you'll excuse the pun)

You can put in european co-ords using Satellite Mode. But for now, this is north america only.

Yeah, I'm sure most of the urban areas it won't matter on, and I'm sure that's where most of the locations will end up being so you will probably want to leave max zoom as default, it would be nice to have an option though.

I just played with it a little...

Check the difference:

http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=39.745087,-104.996399&spn=0.005859,0.009660&hl=en
give L1

and

http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=39.745087,-104.996399&spn=0.009,0.01&h1=en

gives l2 - so it would appear that the spn= is passing the map size info

here's what I found modifying the spn string:

1 spn=0.005859,0.009660 (Max Zoom)
2 spn=0.011719,0.019320
3 spn=0.023438,0.038640

So if you can pass along that &SPN= string and figure out what levels are the break mark it should be fairly easily to get google to pull the right view.

You can indeed (I just checked), but it won't zoom past a given point (around 50% of the zoom scale), so links from UER won't work. Still, no biggie.

spn stands for "span" and the numbers represent the amount of lat/long area to cover.

Anyway, I have a preview of the upcoming feature:

HOT SHIT!

Also, the aerial photography maps don't seem to work in Safari (yet). They work fine in Firefox.

Oh, sweet. It does appear to be working now. It was giving me all sorts of broken images earlier. I'm glad that's fixed.

So sweet.

I was seeing that too, but honestly I think it was more corporate firewall/proxy stuff than it was a problem with Av's linkage work.

I don't like this feature. If we have maps inthe UEDB, it gives the location away. UErs should be able to find the location of the place by themselves or ask a friend.

With the new security features, this shouldn't be a problem.

There are those of us who enjoy knowing little about the site before we go out - 6 or seven hours of research can take the fun out of it.

One thing I do always like is locations - There's little enough info included, and I can get more if I want it...but if I'm traveling somewhere and want to check something out - I got the coords at my fingertips with this. It's great.

Location information isn't hard to get now - I don't think there's anyone on the board that wouldn't share info with me because I've built up a relationship of trust with them. I think that's what L3 status is all about. But, really, once I know something exists it's only a matter of research till I find it, this just streamlines the process...

The spatial information alone will be valuable, looking for patterns in concentrations of locations can reveal the new locations tucked in between!

I dunno, I'm a big map guy, I'd much rather look at a map than read a list of directions, I think it's brilliant Av, almost as brilliant as the maps.google interface itself and absolutely my favorite integration.

Yeah, plus you can see where there hasn't been much documented exploration. I'm more interested in using it to find out where people haven't been than where people have been.

Also it's fun to see what locations look like from above!
