| | | Does anybody know what specific fines/penalties are involved for a teenager who is caught in an abandoned building? See, I'm 17 and my friends and I UE'd quite a bit during the summer, but since it's winter here in Ohio it's tough. We also have been concerned about getting caught and things, or maybe even coming across disgruntled homeless people and getting stabbed, so we have layed off it for a while.

Trespassing On!

| | | A spanking. But seriously, there are so many factors as to what would happen if you are caught. It depends who you get caught by. If your honest most times they'll let you go with a warning not to go in there again. However some people on the forum have gotten fines and/or arrested. Some people here use objects or props to give credibility why they were in a location (i.e. photographing with a camera, tripod, book on photography, etc.) This tactic sometimes gives leniency to your cause. See Credibility Prop But like I say, if you start lying and screwing around with the person that caught you, they are likely going to give you as hard a time as possible. So most of the time it's best to tell the truth and just play along. Here's another thread about other explorers' stories of getting caught. [Edit: Don't preoccupy yourself with fear of getting caught. Just do whatever you feel comfortable doing.] [last edit 1/25/2005 3:15 AM by Viper - edited 2 times]

| | | You could get stabbed by the homeless, or anyone for that matter, at any time at any place. Homeless folk don't stick to abandoned buildings.. the most disgruntled ones with the best stabbing powers tend to loaf about where humans are, UE homeless are usually slightly paranoid but genuinely good people with no intention to stab you unless you steel their harmonica. I learned that the hard way. You aughtn't be worried about getting caught, or at least not more-so than the summer. There's always that risk, though if you think about it, guards who might otherwise patrol will be turned off by the cold nad will pass the time in their little booth watching wheel of fortune.. Damn That Vana White nd her lack of gowns! unless the place is surrounded by cameras, and has a thick surround of snow and your dressed in all black, I doubt you've much to worry about. Don't forget your fleshlight.

| | | Never had a problem with homeless people; I've met several and they've all been pretty nice, if a little weary of our presence. As far as penalties, don't do anything stupid (break stuff, take stuff) and you'll probably be OK if you're honest. Most cops aren't looking to bust people for petty crimes like simple tresspass.

| | | Winter = snow = tracks. Nothing makes it easier for whatever security there is than a set of tracks leading in and to every window or door until an entrance is found, at which point it's given away.
Yet another unoriginal generic UE website. GODDAM! |

| | | You guys are great. Thanks alot. And about the whole breaking stuff-were not really into that. We are just like you guys. We despise the breaking of things/stealing of things. We actually used to have a website, but I took it down because one of my friends's parents found out that he UE'd (How they did so, I dont know.) and he was pretty paranoid about getting in trouble. But since we live in Dayton, we have an abundance of abandoned places, anybody from Dayton in this forum? ps. We have some real good pics if you guys want to see... cheers!

Getting caught is something every UER person has to deal with. It's not whether you'll get caught, it's when. If it happens, it happens. It it doesn't, well be thankful for the luck, and keep on truckin'.

Not if you're careful. Careful and lucky.
Sometimes, you need to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don't know what your rights are, or who it is you're talking to. Then, on your way out, slam the door. |

| | | Penalties and the like depend where you're caught, most places if you're caught by a standard rent-a-cop you'll probably be escorted off the property and told to go home. If the guard is an asshole or suspects you've been doing something other than walking around taking photos, he might call the cops, who'll probably tell you what a bad person you are and let you go. If you're really really unlucky, you might get a free ride to the local station, but actually being charged with anything for innocent UEing is pretty rare as far as I know. There have been a few cases of explorers being tracked down through their sites, normally when the owner of a particular site finds pictures of the inside of his building all over the web, and talks to the law about it. I'd guess you'd be a lot more likely to get in serious trouble if you were caught on live property or on places associated with national security, or as some explorers have learned, by giving away too much information on their sites. I'm personally normally much more worried about vanishing through a rotten floor, brushing a live wire or catching a rusty nail in an arm than being busted by security. At the majority of sites you can avoid security simply by watching and seeing what they do Oh, and abandoned building hobos I've met are normally more scared of me than I am of them. Normally they just want a place to hide, and are likely to cower when guys in cargo pants and combat boots wielding maglites turn up.
