Do you think USGS will ever update TerraServer?

I don't think they ever will, if they do it wont be for 10 years. TerrasServer is really out of date LA was last photographed in 1994 and it is the second largest city in the US. They need to update monthly. Well that would be hard. Rant now...

Welcome to the city of dark.

Most of the old hospitals in Maryland have been updated in the last couple of years so I'm happy.

I really hope they update soon, they only cover a few parts of Alaska, and only with 1996 photos. I use a GPS program that pulls terraserver data down automatically, and it's kind of annoying when it has huge chunks missing.

On a side note, my university has a collection of U2 spyplane photos of the whole state of Alaska from the 70s, along with capability to view them in 3D. The reproduction costs are insane though, so I haven't been able to use them as a scouting resource yet. If you check local universities they might have similar archives of aerial and satellite photos.

Looks like that one's from a local GIS site, not necessarily from the USGS. A lot of cities contract aerial photos like that for mapping purposes (which is another excellent thing to check if you want good aerial photos, much of that content is online in obscure and confusing GIS databases.).

Has anyone else seen the new "urban areas" feature that they have yet? The resolution is amazing (down to .25m), but most (if not all) the images are at least two years old.

The last time colorado was updated and re-photographed was 1999 I beleive. You can still tell its out of date. I can tell because my mom still had her volvo in our driveway in the photograph.
