| | | Oh yes. The best was the "ghost town" of over 3,000 people in California (Columbia). To be fair, the only list it as "semi-ghost," but when I drove through there was a huge active main street and lots of tourism. In fact, of the 10-15 ghost towns from that site that I vistied in CA, only one had more than 1-2 abandoned buildings (Chinese Camp). Also, I once tried their list of stuff in Western MN and Eastern ND/SD and it was all crap. Either the towns had several hundred people or had burned down to nothing but foundations. That site did give some good tips in the Western Dakotas, though. But then, nearly every town in the Western Dakotas is semi-ghost except for maybe the Deadwood area.

| | | Most of the NY locations were pretty much foundations, but interestin nonetheless. Adirondack, the Tahawus Sportsman's club is pretty good (as far as having actual buildings). I signed up for a Ghostown forum, which seemed to place a heavy emphasis on getting there, i.e. 4 wheel drive.

| | | Yeah, that site lists anything as a ghost town if there's at least one abandoned building. Some of the towns they list never existed, and some are major cities. If you can weed through the crap and verify the locations with a more reliable source then it could be slightly useful.

| | | Driving around aimlessly; that's our motto; Take a perfectly good weekend, assume you can find a spot, and spend hours driving around in circles; I'm getting a Gps for the laptop.

| | | What I hate is when I'm driving on a highway in some other state on my way somewhere and I see a cool looking abandoned building a ways off of the road somewhere. I never have time to pull off at the next exit and try to find my way over to it. I must have seen twenty different buildings on my way to Staunton over the summer, and I don't even remember where they were. I'll have to start taking notes on long trips.

| | | Roland that happens every time I drive from Savannah to Baltimore. There are so many buildings and towns I wanna check out, and I can never remeber where they are or go to them cause I am alone and don't know the area...

| | | I think I'm going to start bringing a notebook along with me on long trips and just take a note of what exit is nearby or what mile marker or something like that. Andrea, I'm going to expect a long list of places from you next time you come back to Maryland.

Yup, Nextel i530. A great UE phone really, shock resistant, water resistant, and the direct connect walkie talkie feature comes in handy sometimes too.
