Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

Doesn't having mods able to scan a private board defeat the purpose of having private boards??? I mean, I can understand Av checking out the private boards cause he owns the site. But if it's a lazy eye being kept, why have mods able to check out the private boards? I'm just curious.

If you want it to be really private, use free forum software... like proboards or something. I don't care that mods are watching our conversations, I have nothing to hide.

Av really doesn't have time to scan over everything, thats why there are mods. And the reason for scanning over the private boards is to keep an eye out to make sure there isn't anything happening thats against the site rules (like various illicit activities, child porn, other things that are not allowed by the rules of the site).

And yes, Crossfire does wear army boots...

It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf.

I've deleted two (2) of your posts. The first one was some comment about BPM in some unrelated thread. The second one was you insulting someone who, as far as I know, has never done anything to you. Plus, it was just plain off-topic. You were just trying to stir up shit. So don't even start.

Quite naturally, this as well is off-topic. Not to say I don't agree with you though Mike...

Ha ha i have noticed that the new mods have been extra eager to enforce their authority and use their new moderation powers, and locking threads super-quick... It's funny...

It's not to say that what they're locking and deleting doesn't necessarily deserve to be locked and deleted, or that i don't agree..... It's just funny to see the itchy trigger fingers.

Lets keep this on topic please. As enlightening and entertaining as it is listening to Mike and BPM whine at eachother (again), we don't need more flaming in here.

Don't get too full of yourself Mike, you and like 3 of your loyal followers bitching hardly counts as a "massive revolt".

Indeed, I have not been deleting nearly as many posts as I used to, nor posting as much as before, but it is hardly because of what you and your friends complained about. I've been running a bit short on time lately with life outside of UER. I'm in my last semester of college (taking 18 credits), working around 30 hours a week, going to the gym 3-4 times a week, doing alot of exploring (including working on 2 ongoing films/projects), spending time with my new gf, and working on a new musical project. I do still check the forums on a regular basis, but sometimes not till very late at night and many times other mod's have already taken care of it or the conversation has been pulled back on topic.

I think the new mods are doing their job fine, I haven't seen any posts deleted or threads locked that weren't properly justified. If you don't like the way things are done around here, maybe you should start your own little anarchistic un-modded board (except when someone talks crap about you) and see how many people show up and how long it lasts.

Oh wait... you already did, and ended up taking it down because the conversations had degraded into useless drivel.

My point is you can never make everybody happy. There are those that will complain about there being too much moderation and it stifiling their "freedom", and those that will complain that the quality of conversations is crap and request more moderation. A balance has to be found and I think that this forum is pretty close to the middle. The majority of forum users don't seem to have a problem with the mods being overbearing, and conversations are generally full of good information/experiences and tend to stay on topic for the most part.

And therein COULD lie the problem. A mod with an itchy trigger finger could erupt an entirely new flame war of epic proportion. I've seen it happen in another forum I was a part of for a long time. Too many new mods kept locking and removing posts because they could, the hate went sky-high, and suddenly the whole forum split into two factions, each attacking and locking and flaming the others. That forum is now gone, cause the two administrators joined either side and made it worse.

I'm not saying that would happen here, but the split is already evident, in more ways then one.

Our mods delete based on the rules, and all post deletions are open for debate. Mods don't delete "because they can".

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Av should make me a mod.

UER should have a vote. we should elect mods every 6 months.

That way if the general populous of UER thinks you stink, you'll know it come election time

I agree with the election idea. Let the people decide who should be the mod. That way, if they think someone is a bad mod, they only have themselves to blame, and can vote them out the next time round.

This would also take a lot off Av's shoulders of choosing mods.
