| | I accidently deleted my photos. < on 10/15/2004 6:55 AM >
| | | I copied them to my desktop, and I deleted them earlier today by mistake. Argh! I tried one of those "undelete" programs, but it didn't find them anywhere on my desktop. Is there anything that can "undelete" photos off of a memory stick? This sucks...

indeed there is. I have had luck with several freeware programs out there. Try searching on google (or the engine of your choice) for queries such as "digital picture recovery freeware" and many variants.

| | | Yes you can , there are lots of data recovery programs out there , to recover anything that has not been physicly deleted , for instance they can recoverr files after a format or an error in the partition ... these are the best software for that out there , but i worn you you they are expensive and can save lots , i saved all my data after my hard disk partitionrecord got messed up.: Runtime software getdataback (for ntfs or fat ) Umm ZAR , Zero assumption recovery Ontrack Easyrecovery proffessional (like 500$ US) Recovery 4-all proffessional i mostly trust the runtime getdataback as thats the one i used to recover my data , and I did at 98 % . These software are pretty expensive so if you dont have the cash for that try to find a crack for it or a serial , im sure there is. edit: -Alvin- [last edit 10/15/2004 7:20 PM by 6 Atomic 6 Garden 6 - edited 1 times]

Hey, that program works great. I was at the Columbus zoo today and in my rush to photograph the baby monkeys, I formatted a card with pictures already on it -- forunately I realized it before I took too many shots, and that program managed to recover all the images that weren't written over. Thanks for the link!

| | | Ok so it worked for cf cards or removable memory; what about something decent for recovering from reformat, i.e. destructive recovery? The whole process only took about 7 minutes so I highly doubt anything was "written over". I have currently been through three programs and none of them seem to be very intuitive. Suggustions? I have about 500 images I'd like to recover.\ It was heartbreaking to realize I would lose these memories, but I need this box for work, so getting it up and running was a priority. But if you meant from a computer hard drive - I don't have experience with freeware Windows recovery software but Google has the following to offer (in order of how good they look): http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,23108,00.asp http://www.theabso.../sware/dskinv.html http://www.handyre...ndyrecovery-fw.exe Although if you're looking for something to buy or at least for a trial version of commercial software (which I recommend due to simplicity), check out this trial: http://www.softwar..._homeuser.asp?p=11 - One of the best *simple* unerasing programs I've used.

| | | I accidently marked 15 gigs of mp3 music for deletion, which is the best prog to use to get my tunes back? They were on my slave drive and I'm assuming they are still hidden there somewhere.
I've been feeling funny since I went in that open crypt. Not sure what it is. |

| | | I should mention that when I said "format", I mean the way the camera formats the CF card. All it really does is delete the file allocation table; the way that program works is by reading back the raw data on the card and looking for start of file/end of file markers. If you want to recover from a destructive format that's a lot harder... [last edit 10/18/2004 11:30 PM by Servo - edited 1 times]

See my above post, http://www.uer.ca/...fid=1&msgid=184682 for free file/folder-on-a-computer recovery software... Computers rarely format more than the FAT unless you specifically request it; I've formatted over a FAT32 with EXT2, installed linux, then reformatted and installed windows and was able to recover lots of my files...

| | | Yeah, if you don't fill up the drive with other shit, and don't do anything special when you delete/format it (zero it out) then you should be able to recover the majority of your lost shit. But I dunno what to do it with under Windows.

It looks like the tool Beryl linked to might do it for any drive. Not sure though.

The first one is mostly just for removable media cards, the second post is for actual data recovery from deleted or formatted drives/files....

Thanks for the reply, I went ahead and bought a prog called "Active@ UNDELETE" from www.active-undelete.com It's very straight forward and simple to use. I got all my music and movies back with it! =) I was really upset at the prospect of losing 5 years worth of collected music but it's all good now.
