I tried one of those "undelete" programs, but it didn't find them anywhere on my desktop. Is there anything that can "undelete" photos off of a memory stick?
This sucks...

indeed there is. I have had luck with several freeware programs out there. Try searching on google (or the engine of your choice) for queries such as "digital picture recovery freeware" and many variants.

| | | | Yes you can , there are lots of data recovery programs out there , to recover anything that has not been physicly deleted , for instance they can recoverr files after a format or an error in the partition ... these are the best software for that out there , but i worn you you they are expensive and can save lots , i saved all my data after my hard disk partitionrecord got messed up.:
Runtime software getdataback (for ntfs or fat )
Umm ZAR , Zero assumption recovery
Ontrack Easyrecovery proffessional (like 500$ US)
Recovery 4-all proffessional
i mostly trust the runtime getdataback as thats the one i used to recover my data , and I did at 98 % . These software are pretty expensive so if you dont have the cash for that try to find a crack for it or a serial , im sure there is.

Hey, that program works great. I was at the Columbus zoo today and in my rush to photograph the baby monkeys, I formatted a card with pictures already on it -- forunately I realized it before I took too many shots, and that program managed to recover all the images that weren't written over. Thanks for the link!

But if you meant from a computer hard drive - I don't have experience with freeware Windows recovery software but Google has the following to offer (in order of how good they look):

Computers rarely format more than the FAT unless you specifically request it; I've formatted over a FAT32 with EXT2, installed linux, then reformatted and installed windows and was able to recover lots of my files...

The first one is mostly just for removable media cards, the second post is for actual data recovery from deleted or formatted drives/files....

Thanks for the reply, I went ahead and bought a prog called "Active@ UNDELETE" from www.active-undelete.com It's very straight forward and simple to use. I got all my music and movies back with it! =) I was really upset at the prospect of losing 5 years worth of collected music but it's all good now.
I've been feeling funny since I went in that open crypt. Not sure what it is. |
