No... this has been discussed before I feel sure. You need to get a half-face respirator at least, rated P100 or better.

| | | | do what you like, but you're not going to get much protection from any kind of paper mask. You can pick up a nice half face P100 respirator for about us$25 at the Home Depot or Menards. A respirator like this (provided you use it correctly and it fits you well) will protect you from mold, asbestos, airborne dust and silica, etc. While you won't have to worry about inhaling anything in the air, don't let this give you a flase sense of confidence, as there are things that P100 respirators don't help you with. For example: if a space is full of carbon monoxide or any gas other than normal oxygen-laden "air", the mask will not magically create oxygen for you to breathe. Respirators are designed to be used in air of good quality that simply has harmful particulate floating about.

Half face masks besides keeping your lungs safe dont put bad tastes in your mouth. I took mine off in some tunnels after a half hour to forty five minutes of walking around. I had it off for about five minutes before we left and the taste was in my mouth for the next half hour... icky.

yep. If you are exposed to asbestos or some particularly nasty mold, it would be a very good idea to be wearing clothes you can change somewhere before removing your mask. I'm not sure on proper procedure, but I think that storing them in plastic bags and washing them in a washing machine would probabably be a relatively safe way to decntaminate them to a reasonable level. If someone has better information on this, please do step in...

|  | | | Howdy......When we get big nasty truck wrecks, (at work), that contains nasty stuff we don't know about, usually roll-off bins that have demolition debris, we wear white tyvek suits, for the particulate matter. A p-100, half face(i also use a multi gas-multi vapor, 'cause sometimes it's still burning, and this stuff can release some nasty gasses, I have a full face, but it's such a hastle), and rain gear over top to prevent rippage of the suit. everything comes off, but the mask, the tyvek gets tossed, raingear hosed and saved, then the mask comes off, and i take a shower! at lest thats how it's supposed to go. I usually take the mask off during breaks. we only need to do this procedure a few times a year, and is such a hastle. Contaminants end up on the tow truck seats and everything, there is so much cross-contamination (but I suppose it is better than taking no precoutions at all). I'm one of the only one who really follows these rules (as set out by the Workers Compensation Board of BC) The others don't really give two....
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |

If you're in a location with Asbestos or other nasties you could throw it on over your clothes, and then take if off and bag it up to be thrown out when you leave.

Actually, it does say it is a HEPA mask, which does in fact protect against asbestos, it's essentially the same thing as a P100 filter. Go for it.

This is a chemical suit often called a "bunny" suit by the military. It contains a carbon filter menbrane, and does breathe, but is for chemical atmospheres only. It does not protect you from particulates! This means it will not provide protection from asbestos! They are so cheap becouse there were so many made out of post 9-11 fear. They must be worn with a full face mask, and are good for a certan lenght of time one opened. also military gas masks will not work for particulates either this has been well covered in this forum before, so search for it. Peace, love, and gas masks.

yeh, it's the best! I use the same, any purple cartriges are p-100 (purple for identification) the same carts go on all 3-m products, like the full face mask as well.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |
