Why can't you just modify the post and delete the entire thing? Then type some stupid, off-topic comment to post and Shane will be along to delete it in no time. Sure it may not be as convenient but it works.

It says in when you modify your post "It is against forum rules to edit your post and delete it", blah blah blah.... Besides, one of the mods will prob. report you to av for doing that. Other than that it seems like a feasible idea.

But, if you realize it soon after you may be able to assume that few to no people have seen the post. Obviously if you realize it hours later and other people have posted, this wouldn't be fair to do. If you were in the situation Krazy mentioned I don't think it would be against the rules to delete it. Tonydukes and I have used this when we forget to change user names to the person that is actually on the computer.

in response to jam:

1. this would be a lot of work to program, would screw up a lot of things (like page counts), and would be ultimatly useless. if you don't want to read the thread, just don't read it.

2. same as #1, this would fuck stuff up, and would be hella confusing if someone responded to a user you have ignored. just don't read their stuff if you don't like them.

3. this was already discussed. this is not a spam forum. replies should be well thought out and properly worded, and should not consist of just "yeah" or "me too!". if you are too lazy to click Reply, you're probably too lazy to write a real reply.

4. just make sure you're replying in the right place when you hit POST REPLY. deleting posts is problematic if the users are allowed to do it.

1. I guess I don't know your database architecture, but it shouldn't all that hard to program if your design is sensible.

2. Ditto. Those users who choose to "ignore" other users run the risk of things being confusing. I've used other forums before that allow this option and it is rarely a problem. The biggest problem is that sometimes two different people answer the same question since one didn't see the other's response. Not a big deal.

3. It's not a question of laziness. It's a question of efficiency and usability.

4. I have yet to wish to delete one of my own posts. If your ultimate goal is usability then it is a nice option to offer. There are even fewer issues with it now that I know you save the deleted posts in some way and there is the possibility for a moderator to replace them if the removal caused a problem.

Well, if enough users want the ignore options, I can try to code them in. I'll only be able to do it with entire threads, however. It may also screw up the blue icon thing.

Ignoring users will fux up a whole load of stuff. Links will go to the wrong places, new threads made by that user would be empty, etc. So, no on that one.

Like I said, there was already a discussion about implementing the reply box. The decision was not to, for the reasons I posted. If you like, you can re-open the discussion and argue some more.

I can do the delete thing, but so far I haven't seen any instances where such a feature would be useful. I will be implementing an anti-double-post feature soon, which will prevent accidental double-posts. For the rare occaisions where a deletion is needed, the user can simply PM a moderator.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask. But as I've noticed this forum is accessible from a few web sites, can I arrange for it to be accessible from Urbanadventure.org? It might increase Australian input.
Thanks.

If you know how to code HTML using Notepad, it's possible. Just check with AV!

Av-X, would it be possible to add a little help info somewhere on how to create a poll. I figured out the checkbox to add a poll to a new thread, but I don't know what to do after that. I did run a couple searches, but found no help on this.

Edit: OK, figured it out. Didn't realize that you had to submit the post before the poll options would come up.

all these new modifications make the place really functional!

av, are you planning a feature of the UEDB whereby one could jump from photo to photo based on if it has comments or not?

i like to read the comments, some added after i've seen the picture, but it's harder to do if you have to go back the thumbnail gallery first, and then to a different picture...

edit - oops, i guess this question / proposal should have gone in the UEDB thread right below eh?

okay, if i go to something like Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital loc id 20412, which i have not looked at before, and i click the blue arrow when i'm on the "main page" for that location, is it supposed to jump me to the first gallery picture with unread comments? 'cause that doesn't happen for me...

if it is, perhaps it's something to do with the firewall here, - i think it is also blocking the chat for example

i'll try at home too....

well if you haven't seen any of them before, then it should just take you to the first unseen picture.

oh, my question was if you were planning anything where you could jump to unread commments as opposed to unseen pictures.

You view the entire set... then after comments are made after you first view it you can use the blue arrow to see just the pics with comments you haven't seen.

1) What do you think of an addition to the search function to be able to search the LocDB texts and comments?

2) "Select all" button in the SENT folder of the Private Messages?

An "email selected messages to me" function would be useful with the PMs, I have about 30 I'd like to keep for a long time; with this function, I could just email them to me and delete them off the server.

Plus, the ability for PMs to work with email is already functional so it would probably be easy to code in the extra button...

Cheers
