|  | | | I am a student filmmaker making a short film about urban exploration. The class i am doing this for requires me to have interview research resources, and unfortunately i've forgotten and now the damn thing's due in 2 days! I would GREATLY appreciate it if anyone could answer the questions below and either reply with your responses or send them to [email protected] ...also, i'm supposed to get the phone numbers of the people i interview, but i can understand if you don't wanna give me your real #, so please, just make one up and include it with your answers. Thank you SO MUCH to anybody who can help me out with this. here are the questions:
1. When and how did you begin urban exploring?
2. Why do you enjoy to urban explore?
3. How do you think the internet has helped to promote the urban exploration movement?
4. Have you ever been caught while exploring? If so, what happened?
5. Did the events of 9/11 change your views on exploring? If so please describe how, and anything you may do different in your post-9/11 explorations.
6. What equipment do you usually bring along on your explorations?
7. Do you prefer to explore in a group or by yourself? Why?
8. Have you ever gotten hurt exploring? How? If not, what is the closest you’ve come to injuring yourself while exploring?
9. What is the most interesting place you’ve ever explored?
10. Do you adhere to any sort of personal rules or ethics while exploring? If so, please explain.

I was about 11. Liked to get dirty and crawl into drains with a friend of mine.

Seeing the unknown. Being where you're not supposed to be.

Promote? Maybe a wrong choice of words. I'd say its informed alot of people on the details of UE, but every website you go to usually has a disclaimer saying "We don't promote this, don't do it.".
4. Have you ever been caught while exploring? If so, what happened?
No, not yet.
5. Did the events of 9/11 change your views on exploring? If so please describe how, and anything you may do different in your post-9/11 explorations.
Uh, no. Maybe be more polite to anyone that sees you, out of fear that they are some yahoo who believes the terrorists are exploring empty boarded up buildings and storm drains.
6. What equipment do you usually bring along on your explorations?
Depends on where you're exploring. Standard kit would include flashlights, first aid kit, extra batteries, camera, old clothes, steel toe boots.
7. Do you prefer to explore in a group or by yourself? Why?
Group. If one of your group gets seriously hurt somehow, the other person can give first aid, call 911, etc.
8. Have you ever gotten hurt exploring? How? If not, what is the closest you’ve come to injuring yourself while exploring?
Nothing serious other than cuts and bruises. I almost fell down a 30+ dropshaft in a drain once. Just wasn't looking where I was going.
9. What is the most interesting place you’ve ever explored?
An old glue factory, since burned and torn down.
10. Do you adhere to any sort of personal rules or ethics while exploring? If so, please explain.
Take only pictures, leave only footprints.

| | | | 1. I began UE when I was 13. I still am. I began in a park 2 blocks from my house with a 14 year old friend. The park entrence proved to be an entrence to the Toronto Storm Sewer. It has been closed since but poorly and my friend and I will remove the cover again in May 2003.
2. I enjoy urban exploring because it it so dark and calm, it make me feel free, so that I don't want drugs of something.
3. The internet helps promote urban exploring by telling the hazards, what to bring, and other things. It got me started!
4. No, byt I have heard of it happening. The people got a $60 fine only. No record! But the fine in Austrailia is a whopping $20000 in their currency.
5. Not at all!
6. I bring 2 flashlights, a hat or bike helmet, and a first aid kit. Also, I carry ID, for if I got caught or *gulp* died.
7. Always in a group. 2-4. I something happened they could help me.

3 Internet never helped me in no way,actually when i started exploring was there such thing as 'internet' ?
4 I've been caught quite a few times.Most of the times you get arrested by lonely security gards that would give anything for you to be their friends.I never got any fines

6 small flashlight from the Dollar store.I used to have a mag-light but i got it stolen in one of my explorations..... i also once in a while bring my camera to take pictures,but less often these days

8 Never got hurt once. the closest... One time in winter I went in the basement of an abandoned building wich is normally flooded in the summer(in winter water transforms into ice) .At one point I noticed weakness and cracking in the ice,when suddenly my whole right leg went trough the ice into the freezing water.I managed in some way to get it out and got out of the place as fast as i could
9 The Ultramar abandoned complex in East-side Montreal(Now demolished)
10 I try to smash as much stuff as I can so i can make it a less fun experience for future explorers

uhhh release my results? did it ever occur to you that anyone who wants to could read these boards?
anyway i'd just like to thank those who answered my questions (that is, those who answered them seriously). it was interesting to see different answers and this will be really helpful for fulfilling the BS research requirements for my school proejct hehehe  anyway thanks a lot everyone
