Love this site. http://www.flickr....5/with/2194654872/

I'm curious who gave you the tour and if there is a new owner? My understanding was the old owner didn't like the attention.

most people seem to get ahold of the wrong owner- one person owns the area AROUND the site, another one owns only the site, the one who doesnt own the site isnt really nice about any interest in people who inquire about it- we went in with the owners son, who is the grandson of the original owner, and a search and rescue team, and ****...

teaser pics
the Winch is still hanging from the arm ! only missing the bottom pulley and hook

no CLUE as to why this is in there

something the Colorado sites dont have- a second level basement under the powerhouse

other than the ones leading to launcher 2, all tunnels are this rust free

Wow.. looks like once in a lifetime adventure. Unfortunately Canada is too peaceful to have such fun places to explore ( near me that is )

Great stuff AmcK. The set of interiors is pretty enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.
I'm thinking earthquake protection in three.

wow! What an amazing experience. Thanks for sharing. I love that all of the tags seem to be from 30 years ago.

Thank You Everyone
it was simply AWESOME- i hurt like hell 3 days later, but there was no way i WASNT going in!

i saw Tags all the way up to 2011- the owner was NOT impressed ! he says he will be up there this weekend welding up the Exhaust grating, and dumping dirt/gravel in everything he can to stop it- the only way he wants people to go in, is to make arrangements with THEM- or just buy it, he is serious about selling it

partially- they actually EXPECTED the soviets to know where our bases were, and blow them up- the rubber mounting on EVERYTHING is to that end, in case of nearby missile strike, we could still launch, as the shock of the explosion shouldnt have damaged the base- but NO protection from Fallout- the Air intakes were setup to filter dirt and dust out, not radioactivity

("Fallout" is dirt/dust/particulate contaminated with radioactivity.)

nice set!

It seems that the design didn't vary in the slightest, but the way they decommissioned them did. If the one you have there didn't have a large hole in the power dome, I wonder how they would have gotten the massive diesel generators out? ( the four raised blocks with the trench between is where they would have sat)

ours' sees a bit more traffic as the owner is out of state, hence the tags visible in this image. some of those pieces went all the way back to '73 those guys must have seen this place in damn near perfect condition, albeit still decommissioned.

kind of funny- yours is the only one that DOES have a hole in the roof like that!
also, yours has a couple Silo cribs still in it from what i hear- thats VERY rare, but 2 Larson sites do- the one they use for diving, and the one with the hole

as for the Generators, as i understand it, the military opened the entry portal silo, killed and moved the generators into it one at a time, lifted them out with a crane- at least thats what i have been told

i always wondered why they cut that hole in THAT one- makes it nearly impossible to seal up

as for differences, they were MANY- the biggest being Larson and Beale sites have that strange Sub- Basement under the powerhouse- if you go down there in yours, you will see they cut the spring beams out- how and why is something the scrapper only knows, because there was NO standing up in there !
the sites built first DIDN'T have them- [redacted] had a GREAT time pointing all the differences out
