Fuck this, I am out of here...
The Durango '95 purred away a real horrowshow - a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. And soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark. |

| | | This "place-hacking" term they're trying to bludgeon into hipness has me wishing they'd just call it "recreational trespassing".

| | | Worse... term... ever. Place hacking? Fun rooftopping shots, although I'd never be caught wearing those sandals the dude in the 7th photo on the left is wearing.

I've always seen it as something an out of touch politician or LEO would say to try and stir up some fear around a hobby they don't understand. Recreational Trespassing sounds way better. Has a nice sound without sounded angsty as all hell like "place hacking"

The reason I like the term "recreational trespassing" is that it's a no-bullshit term that describes the common core of what this is all about, and does a good job excluding other activities that I think most of us might not consider UE. That said, it would be terrible if this term caught on and was hanging off of everyone's lips. The reason is that most legal interpretations of the concept of trespassing involves intent. To call it "recreational trespassing," is to sometimes have it slip that one was engaging in "recreational trespassing," perhaps in front of a LEO or security, which is to ensure one won't be let-off-the-hook nor beat the charge if they prosecute. "Urban exploration," therefore, is IMO the best thing to stick to. "Place-hacking," is just a lame attempt to sound edgy and new, and excite the children. It was never new. I had a fun run in with someone I met on here that told me "They were doing this before they even called it Urbex" and that "they just called it going into abandoned shit because we didn't know what else to call it". Really Urban Exploration is the go to way to describe it, though it does cause some confusion when I'm out in Rural areas "Urban Exploring". There's not many words that make me cringe, but Place Hacking is one of the ones that do. Just too edgy.

I agree on all three counts. The name "recreational trespassing" makes me smile but I know it's wrong. Place hacking just sounds stupid. And urban exploration is the best by a bit, despite numerous problems. Oh well, I'm glad there are non-English alternatives that we can throw around in other countries.

| | | I have never uttered the terms 'recreational trespass' or 'place-hacking' before and never will in a positive manner. "Urban exploitation" sucks but you get used to it. The scene worked fine for many years with no title at all
