| | Novitiate in Wisconsin < on 1/1/2014 1:22 AM >
| | | Finally got a chance to check this out over the Summer. An old novitiate that was once the site of a siege between the Menominee Warrior Society and the ATF. As far as I could tell no evidence of that remains.
Went there with a few friends...
<<<And then my good camera died, and I had to use my phone>>> Walked up to this at the entrance. Anyone else get the Marble Hornets reference?
We took a back route in, not really sure of the state of security/surveillance the place was under, but stumbled on this next to a hunting blind.

| | | Ive heard the owners (who live on the farm nearby) are dicks and will press charges, so i've never bothered making the trip. Not worth the gas money, in my opinion. Also, i don't really mind, but someone might be a bit upset about the Wiki link being posted, as it gives away the location. Just a heads up.

| | | Good point. I'll remove the link. We actually ran into a guy doing senior portraits in and around the building when we got there. He said he had permission from the owner, but he didn't seem to care that we didn't have permission and said the owner wouldn't be *too* upset about trespassers. But yeah, there's a small camping ground down the road that you can park at and then double back and enter the property safely from behind - there's even spots you can watch the property to see if someone else is on it without being seen.

Right on. If i'm ever in the area, i'll probably stop, but i've seen dozens of sets from here, so i've pretty much seen every nook and cranny. Heh.

| | | I do love me some stone buildings.
When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store. |

| | | I was there over the summer too. Parked in the driveway and walked right in. Hadn't heard anything about the owners being difficult.

| | | Haven't been here myself but I've seen plenty of pictures of it. I don't think it'd be worth the drive for me personally, beautiful building though! Nice set!

| | | For what it's worth, the scenery around it is actually pretty nice. Woods, meadows, and the Red River is right in the backyard. Not a bad area for a hike if you keep a low profile. Also, for anyone who did get the Marble Hornets/slenderman reference - my phone also started doing some weird stuff in the basement (which resembles Entry #22) that it hasn't done since. The camera kept turning on and showing a distorted image of the surroundings when the screen was supposed to be off so my flashlight app could work. A little unnerving with that symbol at the front door...

| | | Wow, this place is still standing? I'd heard it was torn down years ago so I never bothered to go. Now that I know it's still around I'll definitely be checking it out!

They tore down most of it. Fortunately, not all of it!

| | | I know 2 people that were given tickets in 2 separate incidents by the city last summer. Totally don't park in front or even on that same road. Although, you could chance it...shouldn't take you very long to look at the brick walls heh

| | | I was up in that very general area of WI last spring and almost drove all the way out to that thing (we'd been up to that tiny little Estonian church, though mostly we were just out playing in the woods, at least up until the nasty discovery that WI's forests are constructed entirely of ticks. No trees, no plants, just ticks, pretending). Good to know about the hazard o' authority, if I'm ever up that far north again. Lovely photos though, love the skull.

The last time I ventured there I was thwarted by people parked in the driveway. I happened to be driving behind a Sheriff on the road to there. He turned around right away and I thought, hell, there goes my chance. It took about 45 minutes for them to clear out of there. By then my sundown shots were blown. Yeah. Don't park where you explore. [last edit 1/15/2014 9:27 PM by kenfagerdotcom - edited 1 times]
