| | Looking for a group. Have none at the moment. Philly area < on 12/30/2013 2:19 AM >
| | | So I know I haven't lurked on the forum much, let alone post. I know that makes me suspicious for anyone looking to add newbies. Would using this thread as a place to dump pics I've taken in the past be a good place to garner trust? I'd really love to be an addition to group of people who do UrbEx/like meeting new friends :3 1.
Sorry if I'm completely unaware of the general etiquette of ingratiating myself unto you fine people. I'm 29/M if it matters.

| | | From a psych ward in MD. I found it incredibly creepy that a psych ward would have hundred of copies of an audiobook titled "The Abandoned." Doesn't exactly give a comforting tone to the patients, right? I guess that's partly why it was shut down, maybe. 1.

| | | One more batch for now. If I remember right, this was an abandoned magnet factory in PA. That could be terribly wrong, though. 1.

| | | The magnet factory is long gone, bro. It started life as the Cold Springs textiles bleachery back in the late 1800's. Awesome liitle place. The dam that powered it is still out back. Right before the roof collapsed it was a brake-pad/shoe factory with a sideline in magnets. My buddy Tom used to work there. For a few years the most modern addition was used as a beer distributor but when that moved, the rest of it was ground into dust. Now a budding new townhouse development is being built there.

| | | Thanks Ed. You always seem to be able to provide some really cool historical knowledge on these places. That gives these places even more life.

Are those camel crickets, or some other similar bug? I didn't know those existed in North America. My cats love dismembering them.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they were camel crickets. Oh and for the guy that wanted to check out the mansion: it's an abandoned mansion in NJ (I live in DE), and the last time I was there was 3-4 years ago. I have no idea if it still stands. I'm totally up for trying new places or seeing if it still exists, though.

| | | I heard it was on its last days a month or so back, knowing how this stuff goes it's probably still around though. Adv. if you go watch out, the state police are right next door. That hasn't gone well for me in the past in good old NJ.
