Just decided to go for a hike. Came back all muddied up good. Battery on flash light was dieing, which worked out anyways. Was getting dark and a new site. Didn't want to walk in the dark. Too dirty to push on to other places. But there's always another time.

Nice, not a bad little mine, classic pillar and stall workings.
The nails aren't calcified, just rusty, things underground only usually become calcified if calcite flow is present.

Thanks bout the nails. I didn't know bout the calcite. ( I do see some of those hanging white things from the ceiling so assumed ) Just looked really bad. Will have to get a wader and more lights next time. Didn't do a full explore.

Very nice, looks like you gave it a thorough visit. I very much like your bat shots much better than the last one I took at this same location:

Unfortunately white nose syndrome has beaten the shit out of the bat population roosting in here. The mode of death is restlessness - the bats do not hibernate deeply because of it, and shift around enough to lose hold and fall to the ground below. There they are too lethargic to climb back up and end up freezing to death with no shelter and shared body warmth.

That plastic harmonica is no doubt a leftover from the geocache that was in here a few years back. The Peninsula Conservation Authority had the geocache officially removed and the site removed from the geocaching.com website due to further disruptions to the endangered bat population.

Thanks Rash. I just have rubber boots and 2 flashlights ( 3 including my phone )
so its being equipped to make it as easy and fun experience. Although I did get a bit of that gross water into my boot

GS !! I followed your info to this place !!! awesome !!

That is sad about the white nose syndrome. Felt bad it was the only one there. I used maximum zoom and backtracked around to ensure to give it as much room to not disturb it. I guess I will have to read up on it to ensure I"m not helping the spread in any form. Thanks for the heads up and your info in allowing me to find this Gem.

Glad to see the quarry hasn't sealed the entrance up, as new development off Melrose is encroaching and will likely bring more teens. There was even a fire department rescue out here this summer.

Unavoidable without waders. Even in the heart of winter there's enough ground warmth that ice isn't thick enough to support a person. At least, it hasn't been for the last few years.

Studies have shown that the most likely cause of spread has been the footwear of explorers going from one cave to the next and carrying the disease in their treads. But that would be someone driving through southern Ontario and doing a whole day of caving - not us. At least that's my rationale!

That's what it is all about. Great that you could visit. And you even secured a response from the great explorer Wolfmaan, whom I thought had disappeared into oblivion!!!

Thanks Wolfmaan. Wow it is an honour to have you post in my thread
Funny thing, I thought about you when I was down there. ( not in a creepy way )
I saw your videos and website ;) ( I learned a lot of history of the place through your videos )

I saw a few rusty nails lurking around when I was down there, had to keep my feet moving every 20 seconds as they keep sinking slowly. and when I got some of that water into my boots ( The F Bomb echoes in there.. )
I actually thought how the heck you went through there in barefeet!! I be cussing up a mad echoing storm everyone would know I"m there.. ahahaha.. yes I"m a pansy compared to you.

Serious? wonder for which part the rescue is for? Hope it wasn't bad. why does everyone now need a helmet? I was taught common sense when I was younger without the use of a helmet.

I did some reading last night on it too. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Used anti bacterial soap to wash my boots, shoes, backpack, tripod. Put every clothing including sweater, coat, camera strap into laundry. I didn't consider the shoe strings. Will do those later tonight.
I want to enjoy it not destroy it.

drifter420, it seems that all of your threads are of places where I've dropped acid in the 90s. Keep on bringing back the old memories for me. LOL!

LOL.. I can't believe you done acid and went in there. I probably start imagining the UE Santa is chasing me in there on acid. Just like how santa is stalking my cursor right now

Thanks Anison. Its all new places for me.
