| | | Posted by Benched_it Just use common sense whatever you do and PAY ATTENTION! A train in a quiet zone will literally be on top of you before you know it if you're not on the alert. Respect Rails! |
Yes. Keep an eye on the overhead catenary lines (if you're in electrified territory), the wire will begin to bounce and wobble before the train approaches. This will often give you at least 30 seconds notice. Also, LISTEN to the rails, they will begin to "sing" (high-pitched wine) before a train comes around. Depending on the speed the train is moving at, you'll have somewhere between 5 and 20 seconds notice. [last edit 12/7/2013 6:52 AM by Byberrian Fanman - edited 1 times]

| | | Posted by A Through Z Explorations The idea of "train cops" coming for you because you were outed by the choo-choo conductor sounds as ridiculous as me saying "Just don't fit the profile, be the right color, do not take any railroad spikes, and don't be up to anything illegal.".

Or just listen to a railroad radio frequency for a few hours. Trespasser reports are pretty frequent. As with most things, they take that kind of shit way more serious in the "post 9/11" world we live in. Similarly railroads have invested in a lot more railroad cops than they used to have a decade or more ago.

| | | Ever since 9/11 and terrorism shit the railways are a lot more secured for the most part. Railways are under federal jurisdiction in some areas to my knowledge and can actually peruse you off the property. I am very weary of active railways. Even something as innocent as taking pictures can be considered "Mapping out poes and areas of vulnerability" Welcome to America.

| | | After many years of walking and biking along railroads I've never had an incident until about 2 weeks ago when I was asked to leave the property by a CSX worker. I'm sure if I hadn't walked right up to the area where he was working (to shoot some graffiti on an adjacent building) he wouldn't have said a word. I mainly try to stay off the tracks. Of course if you're mountain biking it's much easier to make a quick exit!

Really? Once I walked right by 5 or 6 csx workers, they waved to me, I waved back, and they even let me take pictures of their skull collection that was on the front of the machine that they were repairing. It was an unexpected reaction, but hey, good to know that some of the people are chill.

| | | Am I the only one who noticed the irony in this? Debating the legality of trespassing on railroad tracks on a site devoted to what is, basically, criminal trespassing?

| | | One of the mods told me at a get together how she had been caught taking photos on train tracks (I dont remember the story entirely) but she had a ton of shit come down on her and she is now considered a homeland terrorist if I remember correctly.... As far as back home in the south east you definitely didnt want to be caught on the tracks, there were numerous times I've had the bull chase me off the tracks. Several friends of mine told me stories about being roughed up and fined and then you have people like the mod who got way worse, just like what someone mentioned previously it can be viewed as trying to plan an attack.
