Foundry Casting Left To Rust

Opened sometime in 1905 this plant represented the state-of-the-art in foundry technology. New techniques were developed here enabling the plant to reliably cast molten metal into parts and tools needed by factories, railroads and shipbuilders across the United States.

By WWII, the company was producing such high-quality products for defense work that the plant and it's employees won the coveted U.S. Navy maritime “M” award for excellence.

After the war the business was purchased in the conglomerate boom of the 50's and 60's. The disconnect between leadership and the rank and file of the company led to a slow downward spiral. As the plant slowly began to decline it's once cutting edge foundry work began to be overshadowed by other plants.

In 1984 the plant was closed. It sat dormant until 1995 when the nearby neighborhood used it to incinerate parts of houses that were being demolished nearby. It has been completely abandoned since that time.

I would have taken more pictures, but it started snowing and I was not prepared for that. I think I will have to return soon though. The level of decay is beautiful.

Three and five are the schizz, right here!

"Are you happy now with all the choices you've made?" "Are there times in life when you know you should've stayed?"
"Will you compromise and then realize the price is too much to pay?" "Winners and losers... which one will you be today?"

Great set and location, keep them coming! I liked #4 the best.

The Durango '95 purred away a real horrowshow - a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. And soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark.

Bummer. This one doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
