German Food

I stopped in to check out this long-closed German restaurant during a recent road trip. My understanding (from the nice sheriff that I met on my way out who just wanted to warn me that the current owner lives right down the street and doesn't take kindly to trespassers) is that the former owners were a couple who lived upstairs and operated the restaurant downstairs. When they retired, the new owner took over and hasn't done a damn thing except let the place fall apart. There's an adjoining six room motel, but my new friend the sheriff didn't know much about its history.

1.

2. Cocktail lounge.

3.

4. Kitchen.

5. Dining room.

6. The motel next door.

7. Vintage wallpaper in one of the motel rooms.

As always, thanks for taking a look.

Actually, it's a completely different place in a whole 'nother town, but thanks!

I could never understand why someone would just let a building rot like that. You know they are still paying the taxes on it each year. Either fix it up or sell it to someone who will, right?

Immer schlimm, wann ein gutes deutsches Restuarant die Türen schließen muss. Aber schöne Gallerei.

Funny you should mention that. The body of a missing woman was found here years ago, and that's at least partly why the place has never been re-developed.

Just bumping this to say that I drove by here late last night and saw that it's being demolished. The motel rooms were completely torn down, and a big chunk of the restaurant was gone, too. I took a quick flashlight lit tour, and it looked like a lot of the furniture and fixtures had been removed, although the piano (of course) was still there.

Well, hell, glad I could keep you from driving down there and finding a vacant lot! I almost didn't go that way, either, as it's sort of the long way home.
