Grave Run, MD

Passed this interesting area north of Baltimore the other day. Does anyone have any info on it? The church is called Grave Run M.E. Church. It still has pews and woodwork inside, which makes me think it wasn't abandoned very long ago. The lawn of the cemetery still gets mowed. Neat that there was an outhouse out back- can't imagine having to use that on a cold Sunday in winter! Just down the hill, at the intersection with Grave Run Rd. is a house off to the side. It's right next to the creek and has an impressive barn. It also looks like it wasn't abandoned very long ago. The houses out in that area can be millions of dollars, but also there are these that fall through the cracks.

Great shots. I especially like how #9 is framed.

Huh; that's not terribly far from me.
I might give that one a poke; thanks for the info.

Catch the autumn leaves while they still have some yellow to them.

I googled the church and was surprised that I couldn't find any history, only info on the graves. Methodist Episcopal churches tend to be African American, so I wonder if it was the center of a small black community out there. I'd also like to figure out what kind of barn that is- for cows and crops, or horses. It would've been easy to get into the house, but I was a little hesitant. If someone braver goes in, please post photos. Thanks

I found that the church is listed as a Maryland historic property but the PDF doesn't say why it's considered historical.

Neat thanks! It's cool to see even a little info about it. I guess they have kept the pews and altar there for the occasional funerals, but it seems like they'd fix the windows too. The two things that interest me about this place are, 1) the name and, 2) if this was a small black congregation. Will post if I can learn anything from folks in the area. The cellar was like blair witch, but surprisingly not that dirty or scary.

Between this link: http://www.findagr...ge=cr&CRid=2144344
and the use of ancestry.com, you should be able to answer question #2.

This is a cute little find. Might be worth checking out if I'm passing through the area.
