Folks,
It's time I arrange another PSW NorCal meet & greet. You are all invited!

Location: Oakland/Berkeley TBD
Date: Saturday 12/7/2013
Time: 7:00pm - ???

Concept:
PART 1 (food): Hang out, talk exploration, meet other people face to face, say hello to the new members, make future plans for exploring, AND...

PART 2 (tech): Bring your laptops and cameras, and help each other learn from your amazing photography skills by sharing photography secrets, processing techniques, HDR techniques, post processing tips and tricks, video settings etc, in an effort to help each other learn and progress further in the photography/videography arts.

If you want to be involved in Part 2, simply stick around and share, listen and interact. If you want to share your techniques, bring your laptop and strike up a conversation. Hopefully we can all learn how Siper stacks all those exposures and uses those awesome plugins, how DTeW remotely controls his camera using an iphone, how Calvin Kaneda holds his video camera so steady (wait does he?) and makes all those flashy lights go off, how freeside gets his damn camera to hold still in those high windy locations, etc. Other topics: Advanced Lightroom processing techniques, HDR techniques, exposure combinations, cool lenses, workflow, you name it. The geeks will be geekin'!

I personally have no intentions of going on any kind of group explore afterwards as normally happens, but this option is totally open to anyone. Organize your own outings!

I'm still looking for a location so PM me with suggestions for an affordable restaurant with private party space in Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, Albany, etc.

I'm also considering having a projector/screen setup, so let me know if you've got access to one.

I just realized (thanks B&C) that I've picked the same day as Cowboy's Fort Ord meetup. As I've already coordinated the date ahead of time with multiple members here on UER, I'm keeping the date.

Hopefully it won't detract from either event.

This sounds like it should be a good time, Freeside! There's definitely a lot of talent in our area, so this should be a great exchange!

Freeside, great idea and thanks for arranging.

I would be really interested in printing techniques - where to go, sharpening for print, etc. I print so rarely.

Seedy: Awesome. I miss 4x6 photographs in my hands and photo albums. Digital is just not the same. I need help with a place to print sprocket exposed negatives from my toy cameras, that isn't stupidly expensive.

Spacetime: great topic. I think I finally figured this out, and then forgot the exact settings I used last time at MPIX that made the perfect large size prints...

TRUE: are you cancelling Ord? Will we finally get to meet?! Please come.

Seedy: Also a long time coming in finally meeting. Look forward to it.
Decrepitude: Hope you come, it will be good to meet you as well.

Fusspot: Look forward meeting you (or meeting you again if I've forgotten).

I'm a little Orded out a this point. I feel bad skipping out on Cowboy though. I haven't seen him in a very long time. I'm sure he won't be too offended.

Long live film!!! I never thought about it until now, but I miss film too. The long hours in the darkroom. The anticipation of seeing you print "magically" appear in the Devo. I miss using the large format most of all. 4x5 and the 120s were fun, but damn do I miss that 8x10!

Whoa, was it 2010? That was an interesting evening to say the least. Dude was running a couchsurfing.com couch out of an abandonment and putting up 10-15 people at a time. I didn't even realize that Cowboy was the one to arrange that.
Hope to see you two there.

Folks,
Thanks to input from Seedy, I've secured the Alameda Naval Air Station Museum as the venue for this meet. It will cost $5 per person to attend, and we'll have private access to the museum for the length of the meet. $5 is the standard entry fee for the museum. No extra charge for the event itself.

Saturday December 7th.
Start time: 6:00pm
End: 10:00pm

I will be running a projector for the brainshare portion of the event. I'll have a selection of video cables for Apple & PC computers with me, but please bring your own video cable if have any kind of non standard connection.

Food will be arranged as a pot-luck. Please PM me and let me know if what you will be bringing, i.e. pizza, drinks, homemade, etc. If you don't bring food, be prepared to contribute monetarily for what you eat as this is all out of pocket for anyone who provides the food.

Look forward to seeing you all there.
