End to something beautiful.

For me there's always a sentimental attachment to a building especially one on the brink of destruction. During an exploration this weekend I retraced my steps and ended up at an insane asylum in the area. It had been under severe demolition and it just broke my heart to see something that was once so perfect, now in pieces.

Well to end a story, I just would love to hear any personal stories from any of you about that place you hold close to your heart.

I'm in the exploring mood more than ever, so if you're in the fox cities area.

Lets go.

Portland Cement in Manitowoc, WI was my first actual explore. I always talked about going back, but i never did. I really should have, as they tore that sucker down a couple years later. Never even got any photos.

A place "we" found (or were told about) in the late 80's.

When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store.

My new place of dwelling is right next door to an old factory that me and my friends used to climb back years ago to drink beer and watch the sun set. Now every day I look out my window and see the construction crew gutting the building, tossing century old machinery right into the damn dumpster. My heart breaks a little every day. At least it's motivated me to go out and revisit some places, in case they suffer the same ill fate.

We'd finally put together our plan for Brachs, which we've never been inside of. Three days before we were going to go the demolition team showed up. It kills me every time I go past.

So, I assume you no longer think demolition is a long ways off? ;)

They will stop for the winter most likely. And I'm still pretty bummed, but I was mistaken, haha.

It is important to act upon information about abandoned locations as soon as you hear about it. Urbex had a window of expanding opportunity in the run up to and the recovery from the 2008 economic crisis. That window is closing now that the economic situation in the United States is slowly improving.

My regret? Not making it to some of the hospitals and steel plants in the American Northeast in time.

I agree with this - hell, even Gary is finally getting around to demolishing some of the shit on Broadway...
