| | | I'm trying to get into a building where the only entry point is a second story window. It's walking distance from where I live so I was going to walk over with a ladder at some point and climb in that way. What are some other ways you guys have accessed second story windows? In my profile pic I'm using a rope. It really sucked. [last edit 10/26/2013 1:04 AM by tofutiger - edited 1 times]

| | | Move something less conspicuous under it, like a crate or an upside-down barrel, something you can find on-site. I've gotten by on parking my scooter next to all manner of fences in order to get a boost, though that doesn't sound like it would work in this case.

This. Also, I've successfully employed the "buddy technique" many times. Basically, have a friend give you a boost with either his/her shoulders or hands, then, once you get up, help your friend gain access (lend a hand, tie a rope, etc.) In my experience, rope ladders (as in your profile picture) never work.

but if the scooter is on the other side, how did you get back over? I once had to dig underneath a fence and tunnel my way out of a location b/c the tide came in.

Never had a problem like that. Nearly every fence I've ever climbed has been intended to keep people out, and once you're over, there are all sorts of bars and wires and stuff to climb on that can help you out.

| | | Wallruns, climbing, stacking things, nylon rope, scaffolding. I've climbed up a weak ass utility cable before. NOT recommended.

| | | Lotsa creative stuff! Lol..used a boxspring mattress recently, used a firehose with knots. One time we used a public bike rack. Was pretty comical, 2 girls as lookouts and 2 guys dragging the thing then balancing it against a wall. I don't think we put it back either. The rope with footholds (in OP) would MAYBE work ok with slippery soled shoes and bigger loops (just to make it easier). We tried it while going into a drain and shoes with rubber bottoms or tread "catch" too much when trying to get ur foot outta the loop.
The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us? |

| | | update: Since reading these comments I´ve decided to have person 1 push person 2 up, then tie a rope ladder with pvc pipes so that person 1 can get up, and so that both can exit afterwards. Thanks guys!

| | | I still think some sort of grappling gun would be the most logical, but it would need to be small and tactile
And i only explore with the strobe setting. The standard setting is for squares. People tend to get a little upset with me, but it's the only way to truly live. -Relik |

The blue rope you see tied around the tree, i threw it over the branch, pulled the ladder up, then secured it on the tree. Tried the same on a small park lamp. Using a rope to secure the ladder offer me the choice of what i will secure it, and is easier to retreive than a grappling hook

It's a 25' long plastic rope from a dollard store (rated at 150lbs), with pvc pipes at each foot, doubled (so more rigid n solid) with a knot in each step. It's not the most stable thing, but i could climb it, jump on it, it's very light and fit in my bag

| | | Each tight bend in your rope decreases its strength. I remember reading about a similar contraption that Slim Jim made when they were trying to get down an (elevator?) shaft. He decided not to use it in the end.
