Abandoned Mining Facility

Hi everyone, first post for me! A friend and I explored some of the buildings belonging to an open-pit iron mine that closed in the late 70s. Benson Mines in northern NY.

These are some of the more "choice" photos (I'm not a great photographer and it was raining so we were a little rushed).

I'm going back to the same location either this weekend of the following one - let me know about anything I should try! There are about 20 buildings in the entire facility but we only had time (and dry clothing!) for about 8 of them. We'll definitely check out all the (safe!) buildings next time I'm there.

Anyways, the pictures:

Cool set! I'll definitely have to check this place out when I'm in the area. Also, it is generally frowned upon to post the location name/specifics and you may want to edit it.

Parking right in front...I like it. I guess there wasn't much concern for security patrolling by?

lol, we're talking north country here . . .

and when it comes to the Adirondacks, as long as you paint your house green and follow all their property rules . . . yeah, anyway.

Yeah, not much concern about security - the mine closed when the iron was gone, and as you can see from the grounds there isn't much left to keep guarded. When we pulled up there were already 2 cars parked there, so I figured we might as well do the same.

Where do you mean? The mine itself was an open pit mine, and it's filled with water now so it just looks like an odd shaped lake.

I love seeing abandoned heavy machinery at locations, mines seem to do this a lot.

I think NotLost thought there was an audit or remains of a headframe? Did you get any pics of the open pit? Or was there not much to see?

Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you.

The pit is now a lake, dude. ^^^

^ that, but we would of walked up to it anyway had it not been raining. If my friends don't flake out, I'm going back tomorrow!

Kinda obvious? More a question of sheer scale.
