Rural tripping

The rural vernacular is one of my favorite subjects to shoot, sometimes they're abandoned and other times people live there. This is the abandoned selection from recent images.

First trip I had a free (gasp!) day off so ventured to some local haunts.

1. Abandoned house in Holly Springs. Nothing exciting about the outside, but what was interesting were these jars of...some red liquid. Not sure if it was alcohol, some sort of homemade sauce, or what. If the "99" on many of them indicates the year they've been sitting there marinating for quite some time.

3. Some of you are pretty familiar with this house, I recently saw a nice evening shot with startrails from this site.

4. Upstairs bedroom. Impressed TV is still intact.

5. Piano downstairs.

6. Broadwell's Groceries building and sign. Not sure how long it's been closed.

I had an assignment near Myrtle Beach last weekend. It was cloudy and my shoot was delayed for a day so a two-hour commute became a six-hour journey down country roads. I went through towns in southeast North Carolina I never even heard of before.

11. Wrapped up a this neat house right off the highway and ventured right on in.

Awesome stuff. Nothing like taking the back roads! #11 gives me unwarranted nostalgia in a good way.
