| | | There's a lot of awesomely cool history attached to this place, but since we're on a public thread and this is actually a somewhat well-known historical site, that's about all I'm going to say. I know that there have been talks in the past about restoring both buildings, but sadly, nothing seems to have come from them. 1. Main building, built in the early 1800s. 2. Not part of the original campus, but probably built in the late 1800s.
3. All sorts of stuff strewn about in the main room of the house, including typewriters, a microfilm reader, Christmas decorations, books, and records.
4. My favorite room in the whole place--the downstairs bathroom with towels and toiletries laid out for the next visitor.
5. Upstairs. Bedroom? Hard to tell if this house was used as a residence or as offices.
6. Upstairs.
7. That poor accordion has seen better days.
8. I've read that the last time this building was used was in the 1930s, but it has to have been later than that, as a lot of the furnishings (like this metal-shaded lamp and clock combo) are from the 1950s.
As always, thanks for looking.

| | | Very cool place, looks to be in reasonably good shape. (One minor quibble - that's not an accordion, it's a chord organ!) [last edit 10/14/2013 2:21 AM by Harvestman - edited 1 times]
Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing. |

| | | I just noticed that the bathroom is carpeted. I never understood that as a design choice, and the apartment I live in now has one too. So much nastiness potential.

Haven't we discussed this already? Like , a number of times? What's given away by the outside? It's a small house like building, possibly off of a road, surrounded by trees. It's not giving away any entrances or anything either. Seriously man, just give up.

As always, your post makes me wish I could have been on that one with you~! |
Not really all that far from you, actually. And full of the small detail kind of things that you like to shoot.
The paneling in the second room looks classy as hell. |
Yeah, between that and the carpet in the bathroom, it looked like there had been some really questionable design decisions made over the years.
(One minor quibble - that's not an accordion, it's a chord organ!) |
Thanks! I didn't really think it was an accordion since I didn't see a bellows, but I didn't know what the hell else to call it. Now I do!
Love the bathroom and the lamp/clock/phone combo. |
I've seen those things (when they're in good shape, of course) sell for some serious money.
I just noticed that the bathroom is carpeted. I never understood that as a design choice, and the apartment I live in now has one too. So much nastiness potential. |
I once worked for a guy who insisted on keeping the bathrooms at work carpeted. He thought it would impress our clients. He then complained all the time about how quickly the carpets became stained after said clients used the bathrooms. So did we rip the carpets out and just leave the tile exposed? No, of course not. We ripped the carpets out and replaced them every few months.

You're welcome!

| | | First off, I have never heard of not posting the exterior of a site, that's what I want to post photos of.
Anyway, I was at this site in the spring and planning on being in the area again in November doing some camping. I didn't have time to go inside, just stopped and snapped a few from the outside.

(Let's pretend I'm a potential client.) Wow! These bathrooms are carpeted! Color me impressed. This business has great taste. I can't wait to literally leave my mark with the putrid rancidness of that which has churned in my netherbowels from our Applebee's business luncheon. Yuck city.
