| | My Family's Mountain Property < on 10/5/2013 7:30 PM >
| | | In the Mendocino mountain range in California, my family owns a massive mountain property (10 square miles), terrain ranging from open plains to heavily bumpy, steep, climbs. Why I'm sharing pictures of this place is just how outright cool it is. It was originally purchased in 1901 by my great(x3) grandfather from a group of Native Americans. The property was used extensively in search for gold (panning, mining, etc.) in the 1800s. There is still lots of stuff remaining up there from excavating, like abandoned cabins, an abandoned small mineshaft (I wouldn't personally go in), and ruins of an old lodge that used to be up there known as the 'Rose Place' but was sadly burned down in 2001 by a group of hobos. The terrain is so rough in these regions, if you get your vehicle stuck or it slips and goes off an edge, no towing company will come up to save it. Thus, there are plenty of abandoned vehicles here as well. Rule of thumb, if you are to walk aimlessly throw the woods there you will probably come across a cabin or vehicle lost in time. There's so much stuff up there it's hard to keep a record of. Scenery-wise, there is a lot to see, and plenty of opportunities for photography. Here's some photos i've taken up there over the past few years. I may be willing to share this location with those I feel I can trust and feel good talking to. Some of the photos are taken with a crappy old Samsung phone, some are taken with the crappy quality of my new android phone. So it's nothing awesome.
