There are 5 mines on route. One ghost town. Of course the tunnels. Past the bridge are more mines, airplanes crashes, old ski resorts. More dwellings. Great area.

P.S. I dare you to do the whole 18 miles. I did it in two days and got my ass kicked. Plan on three to be comfortable.

I do a lot of backpack camping so this would be perfect for me. I never knew the road/ trail went that far back. Everyone just stops at the bridge and turns around. The bridge was constructed so the road would take you out to Lancaster but never completed.

I'm tired so I'll keep it short. THe river forms at a confluence near Wrightwood. Best hike is from the top down. There's Big Horn Mine, the largest in LA County just above. A plan crash from 82 is at the confluence. Nearby are some grave sites. THe best campsites are at fish fork and Backpacker's Dave Cabin. Stanley-Miller mine is a bitch but worth it. 3 times. Allison min is a bitch but worth it. 2 times. Poison oak is rampant the north half. Wash, wash, wash.
