^^ See folks.

Now THIS is a good example of what a new person posts. It's nice, to-the-point, it's not DRIPPING with gender, it's not trying to lure you into a sex dungeon (for shame right?).

It's just a nice little "this is who I am, where I'm at, and what I'm looking for".

But would we have nearly as much fun if every intro post were like this?

Welcome to the forum! It's been decades since I've been out to your area, but my dad's family came from Sioux City. If you ever head out to Detroit, give me a shout and I'll show you around the area.

I've done my share of lurking around on the DB comments and forums to figure out what's acceptable and not acceptable around here. It's all about research. And even if I had or knew of said dungeons, I know better than to burn my bridges to full membership.

I have explored and photographed a couple of great sites in my area and am eager for the privilege of sharing them. It doesn't look like there's much UER activity in my area...actually, there seems to be none...but if anyone ever drops by the ILIAMO tri-state area, I'd sure like to know about it.

In particular, my best friend, fiance' and I explored a house a few miles from here while having engagement photos taken...what we found inside was so unsettling that we left before we'd explored the whole downstairs (the staircase was severely unstable). I'd love to go back to get some interior shots, but I doubt my fiance' or my photographer friend will be keen on the idea.

DEETS!

Deets as in location or what we found? Heck, I'll just share both while I'm here...

It is a beautiful old farmhouse near the tiny farming community of Argyle, Iowa. Abandoned since approximately '04 or '05. It was fully restored in (I believe) the early '90s because my mom saw the inside of it around that time and was blown away by how nicely it was decorated. The exterior was immaculate. Lots of ornate details.

Things went sour between the couple living there, and the home was vacated with all furnishings and personal effects left inside. Food, furniture, clothing, family photos, a battered Christmas tree...you name it, it's in there. It's been ransacked pretty thoroughly and the roof has opened up resulting in water damage to the second floor.

In 2010, a man was murdered near an outbuilding on the surrounding property. That didn't stop me from visiting twice, once in 2012 with a photographer friend and again in July of this year with my fiance' and another friend.

My fiance' kept insisting that, in addition to all the damage caused by animals, vandals and weather, he sensed some of the disorder inside the house was of a violent nature. I'm acquainted with the owner, who lived there with his now ex-wife and their young son. I'm also familiar with the owner's penchant for flying off the handle. But I shrugged off my fiance's concerns until I found a diary written by the ex-wife to their child in 2004. The first few entries were about the child's growth and the new things he was learning...and the last couple were about the multiple forms of abuse she was suffering at the hands of the child's father. Reading it was like watching a train wreck...I wanted to drop the diary and run but I kept reading the entries aloud. Finally my fiance' demanded we leave. Needless to say, we both had trouble sleeping that night.

I can see now how people living in a police or fascist state could go from normal citizens into radical armed rebels.

iliamo1986 I'm just a sightseer on here but I'm happy that someone is taking a look at my old stomping grounds.

If you ever get around to it with your camera, I would love to see what remains of powder-town ( I think its currently called "Moar"

Hi Sam, nice to meet someone on here who's familiar with my area. There are still plenty of gutted-out buildings in Powdertown. I've never been back there, but have seen pictures and I believe that from Carbide Lane the foundation of one of the factory buildings is visible (or at least it was when I was a kid). I know the guy who owns it, so whenever I decide to venture out there I will ask his permission first. He was going to make it into a recreation area but I think that plan fizzled out. He used to have a website for the project, but it looks like he took it down.

For those of you who don't know about Powdertown/Mooar, here is some information:

Wow. I drove right past Mooar on W62 last night after dark and had no idea it existed. Then I find this thread after doing a search for "Keokuk". Thanks for making my day! I have a sneaking suspicion this section of the Mississippi (from Keokuk down to Cairo and everything in between) has more curious places to offer than meets the eye...I'm kicking myself for not getting interested in it back when I lived in Iowa.

I want to be different. But I want to be different just like everybody else, because if I really were different, everybody would think I was crazy and weird.

Iowa is Minnesota's bitch. There's an art to pooping.
