| | | I decided to do my first solo explore today! I went to a local abandoned drive inn. Nice location! Closed in 2012 and did not re-open for 2013. Here are my pics from today.

| | | I'm assuming that the radio station that you tune to is so you could hear the movie audio in your car? Must have been strange to be flipping through radio channels and randomly hearing parts of a movie.

Hahaha! You must be too young to have ever experienced this but you usually has to clip something to your car antenna to get the sound. It was really low power transmission so very rarely could you tune into it from a neighbouring road. Older drive-ins had this bulky metal speaker on a post that you used to clip on your car window to get the sound (those sucked arse).
Nice set N1!

Hubby and I went to this drive-in a few times back in the 1990s. No clipping of any sort, just tune the stereo. You could pick up the signal from the road, but not very far.

..And people would forget them and rip them out or break a window when they left.

I wouldn't buy pie from that guy, he's probably just trying to molest you...like a mailman or something. |

That's old stuff, though. The last few years, the ones I've been to have broadcasted on FM and didn't need to clip anything to any antenna. They only time they clipped to antennas was when they first started getting rid of the speakers something like a decade ago and were using AM instead of FM.

| | | These kind of sets make me very sad. I love drive-ins... always have. We'll probably see even more of them close after this season is done when all the movies coming out next year will all be digital format - no more film. The digital equipment is something like $80,000, which is quite a lot for then to handle up here with the limited window to make money.
