Gold Dredge #3 Fairbanks Alaska R.I.P

This is why we can't have nice things! http://www.newsmin...-001a4bcf6878.html I don't buy the story especially knowing the types of people that frequent those parts as well as in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. We lost another UE site earlier this summer to some middle schoolers who said bad things were going on and so decided to burn it down to prevent them from happening anymore. We also lost the historic Matanuska Maid Creamery in Palmer with no explanation of how the fire started, seeing as the site had no electric for years I suspect we have some firebugs going around these parts lots of suspicious fires well within driving distance.

I do buy the story, almost the exact same thing happened to me, and we were probably seconds away from a fire before I jammed it.

I'll see if I can dig up my videos of the angry winch and smoking gears, they're not on the site anymore, but I should have them on my computer at home.

I only just found out about the fire yesterday evening. Such a damn shame that all these places are being destroyed around the state. I was planning to visit #3 later this summer. Guess I'll never be able to now that its a burnt out shell.

What ue site burnt down earlier in the summer? Was it out in the valley?

I'll defer to your expertise Freak seeing as you're one of two people I've met in person from UER and have no reason to doubt you. I would really like to see that video I wonder now that you've mentioned it that perhaps that exact scenario is what happened to these two. AKphil the other site I mentioned other than the Matanuska-Maid Creamery in Palmer wasn't too far away probably a five minute walk, it was part of the agricultural research facility with UAF.

Every time I've taken people to #3 I always told them the story about that winch and not to mess with it. Honestly it was only a matter of time before someone got it unstuck and running again. The fact that a crane collapsed onto some of the cables holding up the stacker in 2009 didn't help things either. That probably helped to loosen up whatever steel bits Freak jammed into the gears.

Ah I see. It's always the dumb kids who think every abandoned place is haunted with s00per sp00ky ghosts (even when there is NO evidence to prove the place is haunted) that tend to trash or torch them and ruin things for us explorers.

By the way, where in Alaska are you from? I'm originally from Anchorage but am in Fairbanks till the end of September working a summer geology job.

Alas I wish it were "spooky" things they claimed that kids were smoking various substances in the structure having relations and girls were being abused. The smoking I can see but there definitely wasn't enough room to have any sort of relations hell you really couldn't walk around in it there were file boxes front to back floor to ceiling in 3/4 or better not to mention scientific equipment. I think they were just trying to justify their actions trying to get in less trouble.

I'm originally from Anchorage but currently situated in Palmer I've got some spots to hit out here, found a new entrance to the Palmer "Satanist" tunnels and found a spot out in Eagle River I need to hit. I've done some UE with Freak and eidolon. I was the other person at the MB Contracting expedition in the DB I just prefer to keep a low profile. I wish they'd just give me full membership already I was turned down last time due to not enough posts even though Freak and eidolon vouched/recommended me. The fact that Freak & eidolon are out of state currently make it hard to get a UE group together.

way to break my heart, internet. I went to gold dredge #3 the day before the fire (photos here), thinking this is definitely a place to return to at some point.

I came across some photos of the fire, and the aftermath.

Dredge 3 before:

After:

During:

And some more details, no one tried to put out the fire, as it was "outside the jurisdiction" of the local FD, and when the forestry dept responded, the realized that they only know how to put out burning trees
