Over the weekend I caught up with crownand. We had a semi-plan going on before we ended up an hour and a half from our original destination. But we started out early enough in the day that we made it back to the original plan too. As cool as it was outside(87f), with the humidity being 100.1 in some areas of this plant, it was not a place to venture without a respirator. No joke, even the mold had sweat droplets popping out all over it! *However, you wouldn't have know it without a flashlight, since it was pitch dark in some of the most interesting(and wet)areas. When crownand gets back, I hope he will add a few pics of the place too. How about you, flyingwhale, got anything to add?

1.This swingspout was just in the sun...fading. I have not seen one of these in ages.

2.ribbitt

3.Yeah, it starts getting slippery about...here.

4.Colorful place to work

5.The fish paperweight was pretty dang awesome.

yes, plenty of everything left and still just as they left it. I was told that it looked like they could resume shifts tomorrow. They were right, it sure looks that way. Machine shop looked messy and used, and completely intact, as if they were out for lunch. The spiderwebs tell a different story.

Thanks,
The "teeth" *top and bottom, were there in the guys desk drawer. They are orthodontic molds made of his daughter's mouth, prior to pulling any teeth and putting on braces. Each set was marked with the date and the kid's name.

Odd coincidence, but underneath my basement stairs are several thousand sets of those orthodontic molds. It's not as creepy as it sounds - a retiring dentist gave them all to my partner for an art project.

Did she ever use any of them? They could make for some very authentic projects! *not to mention some really creepy "secret-pal" gifts!

Great shots and I really like #3. I like how you've shown the drawers and what happens when nature takes over. Nice work!

Yep! The piece on the left is semi-finished. I think she's going to paint all the teeth white (hence the nail polish). On the right is the below-stairwell scene. There are actually a LOT more boxes, spread all over the basement. Boxes, and some of the teeth are labeled with patients' names.... definitely some potential for creepy gifts especially to strangers who had braces 50 years ago.

I came for Shwetty Mfg, I stayed for Hotwired's teeth.

I enjoyed both.

Now just imagine that mold all over everything, including the floor. I'm so glad Hootie had a spare respirator.

omg froggie! i love finding frogs in abandonments. Last year I caught a bunch of frogs that riddled a state hospital's tunnels and took them to a local conservatory area and let them go by a pond.

it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.
