Small town industry

Hi all. First post for me - I'm mostly a curious driver with little experience (or equipment) for photography or UE, but I was on a trip today and thought I'd try my hand at exploring the history of this small town.

I'm not sure how the rules go - correct me! - but I blurred all the obvious location giveaways, but I have unmarked versions that I can upload too. Did I give too much info or too little?

Also, these locations aren't in the UE DB... What's standard for posting in forums vs. in the UE DB vs. both?

1. Furniture mill - in various states of disassembly

2.

3.

4. Textile mill - not running, but currently occupied

5.

6.

7.

8. Overgrown spur

9. Mainline - active

10.

11. Lumber mill - active

Thanks!

So did NAFTA and free trade kill these places, or what else contributed to the pretty universal demise of such industry in NC?

I am willing to bet it was those political agreements that have us with so many commercial abandonments in many places, well, save for where I am.

NAFTA is indeed responsible for the current state of industry in VA and NC. Our jobs are in Mexico now and other countries overseas.

The bridge was the reason for the visit! Everything else was incidental.

Nice places. RDU has promise especially along the old railroads and rivers.
