Abandonment in the woods

My brother and I explored a house he had heard about, probably a mile into a wooded area. There was a shorter route via the overgrown driveway, but we had heard of neighbors calling police about cars parked in the area, so we took a back route through the woods. After about half an hour of walking we came upon a stone staircase, mostly overgrown, and followed it up a hill. We would periodically lose the staircase and find it again, then we came upon the house.

From these pictures you may not be able to get a scale of the house, but it is very big, and when it was in repair it was probably a very beautiful home. There is a ravine and river nearby and I imagine the occupants enjoyed it.

After gaining entry to the house we checked out the basement first.

A safe that must have been too much of a pain to move out

Again, this house had a large footprint. It was only 2 stories high in most places but had one chunk that had a second floor. But the basement was very large. We went up to the first floor and explored around there, it has been a little beaten up but there are some cool intact mirrors in several rooms, one has an entire mirrored wall.

Contrary to graffiti, this is actually not hell

We reached the stairs for the second floor, and were a little apprehensive about it because someone who had been here before said that when they went upstairs they heard a person or people moving around, possibly squatters, we did find a couple mattresses on the first floor. Also, at the top of the stairs was a large collection of feces, if anyone can identify them it would be awesome, but it seems to be from something decently big. We didn't encounter anything living, and the second floor is small compared to the rest of the house

After this we headed back down to the basement and out, all in all a pretty cool location in central ohio.

About a year or so ago, the windows weren't boarded up at all.

That place is best described as "cavernous".

Pretty sure there's another picture thread of it on here.

In order to use your head, you have to go out of your mind.

Yeah it is very spacious, I'm sure it was a beautiful house when it was lived in. And the windows being all boarded up gives it a weird feeling of being like a cave as well since you can't see outside, and there is only one possible entrance

Room of closets is strange.
I think the poo looks like Canadian goose.

The scat looks like it's raccoon. Some looks older than the other, which is normal raccoon behavior to have a "raccoon latrine". Hope you didn't step on it, since it usually contains roundworm larvae which can be inhaled.

Basements are my favorite parts to explore. Glad you took some pictures of it!
