Couple of Schools

Visited a couple schools recently. The first one here is made up of four separate buildings, built in the early '40s, late '40s, early '50s, and early '60s. Two of the buildings are in use, but the other two are wide open.

1.
This is the '50s addition.

2.
Obligatory hallway shot.

3.
That's moss and not carpet. There's some serious water damage going on here.

4.
More hallway.

5.
Pretty typical of what most of the classrooms look like.

6.
There's a cemetery next door, and apparently the bereaved get rid of their plastic flowers by tossing them through the broken windows of the classrooms.

7.
This is the addition built in the late '40s.

8.

9.

10.

I don't know a thing about the history of school #2, but if I had to guess, I'd say it was built in the '20s or '30s. There are two buildings here, one of which is in use. No idea how long the other one's been closed, but there was graffiti referencing the Mr. Bill Show on SNL ("Oh no, Mr. Bill!") which means the graffiti could be from as early as the late '70s. And as much as I usually dislike graffiti, I actually found it kind of quaint and charming that much of it here was done with a paintbrush.

Special thanks to a certain UER member (you know who you are) for this one.

11.
Yep, that's a two story schoolhouse back behind those trees.

12.
Front entrance.

13.
This place was tiny. The first floor had what appeared to be six small classrooms (plus a main office).

14.

15.

16.

17.
The entire second floor was made up of two classrooms and an auditorium.

18.
Another view of the auditorium, looking from the side of the room with the stage towards the two other rooms. Lots of holes in the roof and really, really unsafe flooring up there.

Thanks for looking. A few more on Flickr.

Come on up! But it'll have to wait until the fall. I work pretty much non-stop for all of June, July, and August (these pics are all from a few weeks ago) and won't be able to go out again until then.

Made a return visit to both of these schools with Hotwired Heart last weekend. Here's a few shots from school #1 that are essentially repeats from my first visit.

And here's some more shots from school #2

Since posting my initial shots from here, I've heard from several people that the upstairs auditorium still had seats in it as recently as a year ago. I've seen pics, and the chairs had really nice, ornate metal sides holding the wooden seats and backs. I assume all that metal has been scrapped...

Very cool shots. The flowers in pic 6 are really unsettling and spooky (and bad ass! hahah)

#9 looks like the place where text books go to die. How wild. I would be really curious to see what the curriculum is like inside of them.

#18 really unsafe flooring/holes in the roof made for most excellent lighting in your pic. That one is a particularly beautiful picture. Life as art.

Looks like a fun place to explore. I would be down. Just putting that out there ;)

All great shots but I really love that second school. Kind of mysterious sitting behind those trees. Very nice work!

Coolness. I love it when you and I go to the same place and come back with completely different shots.
