Meetup with WalkingFumble and Anaklusmos

Greetings. Well, a couple months ago Fumble, Anak, one of my cousins and I all met up to do a couple explores. I was limited to one night and one part day, but in that time we went to a Nike site and a hospital.

The Nike was at night and I used my cell camera. We came across no people.

The hospital was on a Monday in the day so being a shared campus with closed and open sections, we chose to explore the exterior. I used a Canon SI for this.

I have since bought a sony dsc f717 and a sony dsc f707. Same thing, but for the 717 having a higher media size. Both have nightshot and are quickly becoming my favored camera.

I have the images on an imgur album so please take a few moments and be kind as I know the images are not great.

Be well.

If its a pain for anyone to use the link, let me know. I will post here directly.

Thanks for checking these out though. I do appreciate it. As a matter of course, in the end it does not matter if anyone comments as the explore was its own great time and with excellent companions.

Glad to see you had a nice time with fellow explorers.

I think it is generally preferred to post the pictures, rather than a link. I still looked, but it is a lot easier the other way.

Thank you PressingLeap.

I agree its easier so lets try this. + I accidently had these ful size. Sorry. Its fixed.

The Nike site was built on land that had once been a military camp in past wars. After the trip I spent some real time looking up info on the place and it is amazing the layer upon layer of history that is there. It kind of follows those archeological programs where centuries later they uncover a prior city under the one they are excavating except this is only decades.

So the Nike site. Explored very late on a Sunday night with overcast skies and no visible moon, though there was some minimal ambient light. No lights were on this property, so it was pitch black, so my cell became the little camera that could here. I did have the Canon SI but it was useless here. I had no way to take shots of the radar towers sadly.

A very dark image to start with so in editing to get some detail it became grainy, but at least one can see what is there. (Nike)
1.

Some big hole in a wall for this building. (Nike)
2.

An entry door that was reinforced with steel. Paint shavings and no doubt asbestos (Nike)
3.

Steel from the above door (Nike)
4.

Though I saw no ticks, it was late April, I did spot this little fella. (Nike)
5.

This room had been some kind of clean room it seems as several panes of glass once were in these windows from one room to another. (Nike)
6.

Clean room street art. (Nike)
7.

This was a lavatory. Part of the roof was gone, so late April pollen was abundant and was thick passing my cell in this shot. Yes, that is a tree in the lavatory now. (Nike)
8.

This is the left side of a street art mural inside a larger building. I like the sentiment here. (Nike)
9.

Right side to the above (Nike)
10.

At the conclusion of the Nike explore we did the walk through the woods and made it back to our cars safely parked. We chatted and made plans for the next day and parted ways. My cousin and I had secured a room in a hotel in the area for the night.

The next day Anak, my cousin and I met for a late breakfast and ate hearty. Fumble was feeling ill and planned to join us later.

It was now a mid day Monday and the hospital grounds were moderately active. The old section had a couple of workshop type buildings still in use so work trucks and some light security were around and visible. There was no issue wandering around these buildings so we did. It was seen as a park, so having these awesome 1930's buildings with later 50's add ons was still a great explore.

After the trip I stumbled online to a site that was selling equipment from this hospital. Things Fumble was aware of.

For these I used the Canon SI.

So the old hospital.

What is an old brick building in a somewhat forested area without moss. (hospital)
11.

To the right rear of these main huge buildings were these enclosed areas where utilities were centralized. (hospital)
12.

To the left in this shot is the newer addition from the 1950's. The main central part was built in the 1930's (hospital)
13.

The central front entrance to one of the buildings. (hospital)
14.

A closer shot of the entry in front. (hospital)
15.

The Canon SI has an great zoom and steadyshot feature, You saw the distance from bottom to top, well here is a close up on the finial over the door alcove frame. (hospital)
16.

An examination of the framing of the door alcove is not complete without a shot up the vertical plane. (hospital)
17.

These great windows were adorned with wood shutters for looks and paint has peels so nicely here, I took the shot. (hospital)
18.

The full front of this building from an area that seems to have once been a garden and seating area. (hospital)
19.

Further exploration yielded various things, like this stainless steel framed room. Up close one could see it was a screen room, but of a heavy duty mesh. (hospital)
20.

In that same back yard area was this picnic and volleyball area. (hospital)
21.

This was a caretaker home. Presumed a higher staff member. (hospital)
22.

In another closed section were 1950's low buildings left full of their equipment and paperwork. We did not go in though as it was too active an area. Employee of the quarter parked here. (hospital)
23.

A former main drive. There is minimal groundskeeping still, but not enough to make it seem in use. (hospital)
24.

A zoom down the road. (hospital)
25.

This appears to me as a former meeting area for festivities. (hospital)
26.

On a different but same style as the big building above, was this stenciled notice. These were steam heated buildings. (hospital)
27.

The leftovers from the steam shut off. Now cut off.
28.

This is an ornamental bracket and was about 20 feet above a alcove door. It had a mate to the left of it. It seems these held either an awning or some kind of banner over the door. Canon SI zoomed in a little ways.(hospital)
29.

This stone was missing in each big building, and from its placement, it seems to have been a cornerstone type of thing. (hospital)
30.

There were signs of scrappers taking copper here, but this roof gutter was still intact and shows the ornate way they molded the stone to the copper. (hospital)
31.

This shows the cistern the gutters went to. I would love to see such workmanship now that would exist 70 plus years. (hospital)
32.

This last shot is a pull out from the last. It shows the way the brick was reinforced over the windows in the angular fashion. It also made for a more attractive look. (hospital)
33.
