| | | So I've given HDR another go, but I'm only using it when practical (for example, when getting any detail on the ground requires I blow out the sky, or getting the sky detail results in a severely underexposed foreground). I spent a decent amount of time trying to avoid that weird video game screenshot quality some HDR gets, and I obviously had no interest in clown vomit or those weird random splotches of light and shadow... Anyways, what do you guys think of this one? Does it look too unnatural? I really tried to tone down the weirdness of HDR here.

| | | It looks fine as far as avoiding the HDR look that you're trying to avoid, but there seems to be a blue pall cast over the whole photo, and the landscape in the background is too dark. I would try to back off the blue a bit and dodge in some more detail. Personally I would also crop it so that the amount of building cut off on the left and right edges are symmetrical and the far edge of the center wing is centered in the photo.

+1 It also appears to have some blown out highlights in the clouds. How far apart are your brackets?

| | | Thanks for the input guys. First off, I'm honestly not sure why I didn't crop/center this one. I think I must've been distracted by the rest of the post=processing... I should definitely fix that. The blueish hue in the image was actually how everything looked just before sunset, but I'll take a peek in LR to see if warming it up looks better to me. As for the middle-ground's exposure level, it was originally a bit brighter but I really found it off-putting somehow. It's certainly possible I went too far in burning it. I'll take a look through my saved versions and compare them.

I noticed that too but unfortunately couldn't recover them in post. My bracketing was at +1EV/0EV/-1EV. I don't have a ton of experience using bracketing or exposure fusion/HDR so it's totally possible I messed up a little in my settings.

I was only interested in your brackets. I always like to experiment with mine. They'll have little affect on your exposure (amount of light coming in) in the long run if you've got your shutter speed and aperture settings on target...and that's something I'm still learning as well. Though, if you have a highlights option on your camera, it will help you identify blown out areas in the moment, rather than afterwards in post processing.
