| | Hey! A Textile Mill! < on 6/20/2013 1:01 AM >
| | | Here's my take on one of the more popular locations in the area, yet another in the seemingly endless list of abandoned textile mills around here. Parts of this place are incredibly boring, while other parts are insanely cool. Your mileage may vary, of course. If you're going, I recommend allowing plenty of time (like a full day) to see everything. Special thanks to Hootie for getting me up that damn hill. 1.

6. I just about flipped when I saw this. I deal with a lot of obsolete video formats at my job, and to come across an open-reel video recorder was the coolest.

10. Bonus! Another textile mill! There're several other mill buildings in the same town, although the two I went in were pretty stripped, trashed, characterless, and uninteresting. I kinda liked this very unsafe walkway, though, that connected the two of them.
11. And here's a pretty representative shot of what the rest of the place was like.
Thanks for looking. A few more on Flickr.

My sincerest apologies for any photography sins that I may commit, but you must understand that I have no idea what I'm doing. |

| | | I want to go back to that mill just to make a decent shot in that room in #6, every time I go, something happens, whether my tripod breaks, or my camera battery dies, I will make a shot there if I go another time!

Tell me about it. But they're what we seem to have around here. These shots are from Memorial Day weekend, and by the time the weekend was over, I'd been in five mills (and visited a few more that we didn't get into).
Great job, very inspiring, heading to that spot one of the next couple of weekends! |
Thanks, have fun! I can't imagine trying to get into this place after the surrounding plants have had a couple more weeks to grow. Good luck!

Are you talking about the building that's across the street and on the railroad tracks? If so, that's the other mill. If not, then no, haven't seen it.
Thanks!
That Sony Reel-to-Reel deck is an amazing find. |
Isn't it? I've shown that pic to a lot of work buddies who are just as amazed as I was to see one of those decks still around.
Great set! And glad you haven't abandoned Flickr (at least not yet) |
Thanks! As for Flickr... grrrrrr... don't get me started. But I've tried ipernity and 500px, and I'm just not feeling it, so I guess I'll stick with Flickr (at least for now).
I knew I should have gone with you both that day! |
I know, you should have! And hey, your wife probably would've loved it...

Oh, yeah, I'd almost forgotten about how we concluded that little adventure. And then, of course, I finished things up by dropping my camera and one of my lenses out of my camera bag. Camera's fine, btw, and I swear, that 20mm that's been giving me problems has been sharper ever since I bounced it off the pavement.

Sometimes we just have to do things our own way! I had forgotten about the 20mm! What an interesting day! Autumn will bring more adventures our way.

| | | Stopped by this weekend, didn't have much time, so only spent 2 1/2 hours in the entire area. It's been on my list for awhile but with everyone from NC dropping in, I'm a little worried that POE may become limited for the prime location. May drop by again in the future, just not anytime soon. 1. 2. 3.

| | | This was a phenomenal explore. Too bad the weather was unbearable. I became so dehydrated that I was not able to finish exploring it. I even brought two bottles of water and it wasn't enough.
