Couple pics from West Baltimore

On one block of Druid Avenue there were two especially interesting gems: the Home for the Friendless, and the house belonging to former civil rights activist Juanita Jackson. Ms. Jackson was known to have hosted MLK Jr. many times in her house, and there's a sheet of paper tacked to the door that says as much. But the house itself is now a ruined shell. The Home for the Friendless is a really interesting building with adjacent lot. I found this about it on Wikipedia:

Home of the Friendless is a historic orphanage at Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It is a three bay wide, five story high Second Empire style brick building constructed in 1870 as an orphanage. The building provided a home for orphaned and deserted children for six decades and was part of a three-building complex that housed from 100 to 200 children each year. By 1922 the Board of Managers and Trustees had decided to sell the property and move to the suburbs. The institution is now known as Woodbourne Center. Home of the Friendless was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

The place is clearly abandoned now, so I don't know what that bit about the "Woodbourne Center" refers to. I took the photo of the staircase through the mail slot. Has anyone been in there?

Sorry for the haphazard posting of the pics- I'm new to this (any tips are welcome)!

Wow, rare I get to see urbex out of B'more, thank you for sharing these historic structures. You're from there and seem to know the lay of the land and where there's the least risk.

Honestly, my biggest tip is just taking joy in seeing and documenting these places. IMO, your photography skill is secondary to the experience of exploration itself. And stay safe so you can do this another day.

That's what I love about this place, so many historical artifacts crumbling throughout the city of Baltimore. A lot have been restored. And that's great. But seeing old mansions and learning their importance is really fun.

I literally drive past that second location every single Wednesday and I've always wondered about it, but since I'm always en route to an appointment I never bother to stop and poke since I don't want to be late. Thanks to you, now I don't have to.
