what could have done better composition wise? And is the scaffolding in the foreground detrimental to the rest of the photo?

Everyday is an exploration! Go out and do something new today :D

I'd have taken a step or two back, or would've left out the steel structure and focus on the building on the right hand side. My eyes keep wandering, it's a very restless photo. Toning is nice though!

scaffolding in the photo defn works for me, i think without it the shot might just look like a boring photo taken out of a window, the scaffolding brings you into the piece and out of the building. i defn agree though, i'd take a step back, get a little more of the scaffolding in frame - especially the lower rail; i'd get the same amount of the bottom rail as the top.

keep the background out of focus, but use the concept of hyperfocal distance on the scaffolding. but then again i'm a sucker for short depth of fields - so your call.

also, if youre doing long exposures outside - especially on the side of a building - if your tripod has a hook on the center column throw your camera bag on it to prevent any unwanted shake from wind.

The vertical scaffolding bar on the left should be parallel to the frame of the shot; instead it's crooked.

It's hard to know where to focus on this shot, my eyes wander too much. Needs a more clearly defined subject.

I like it too. I would agree with the shorter DOF to keep the focus on the railing, and lose the focus on the rest of the shot. But still a very good shot that gives more perspective to where it is shot from.
