I think Stormy's point was just that it would have been better off had this thread not been posted here. Sure, location details may not have been posted and UER rules may have been followed. However, this isn't always in the best interest of locations. There are some spots that are relatively awesome and rare that its almost selfish-like to post pictures, details, etc from.
In my opinion this is one of those locations. Certainly there are abandoned structures all over the world but I think we'd agree there are not all that many prisons like this in the US..

I know this location. Capt. Stormy was just asking you to be more careful with what you share publicly.
Some people invariably get all butt-hurt and throw a tantrum and insist they have every right to keep their photos up. And it's true: I also have every right to not keep secrets entrusted to me if I so choose, or to be rude to gas station attendants for no good reason if I feel like it.
Other people, who aren't so emotionally tied to their internet ego, willingly remove the offending content.
We can't babysit every abandoned building and keep all the assholes out, but shouldn't we do our part to help keep certain locations under the radar?

Good luck getting others to share locations with you if that's how you respond to the idea of discretion... Just because a place is already getting fucked up doesn't mean it's time to start whoring it out on UER, facebook and wherever else.

But really, who is to say what locations get posted and what ones stay under the radar? Lays Motor Lodge- whored out on flickr and google. Yet zero tags, scrapping or intentional vandalism. Weather and lack of upkeep are its only enemies. That place is 40 feet from a quiet country road and has been vacant for (I would guess) 30 years. "WOW" or PO4 down in Plant City, vacant for 10(?) years, same story. A few posts about it in the Florida area every now and then, but zero tags etc. Then there is Packard.... I don't have a clue what to say about Packard other than if I ever want to shoot a rock concert that buses get driven off the top floor, I know where to go.
It boils down to me posting and someone criticising my post because they feel the location should be a secret even though its not a secret. There are "hundreds or thousands" of public posts per month, some of even active locations. Do they catch heat?
Say what you will about my posts on other non-uer sites. I will stick to my guns on this one.

If I had that answer, I would share it. All I can tell is that the MSP peeps are not happy about this post. This place is not in MSP, it's in Kenya proper.

Why would anyone be happy about you plastering pics and info about locations on UEFUCKINGR? You're in the Great Lakes section which includes MSP. I don't know what it's like where you come from, but things are fucking different in different places. "Respect is a two way street, while some only choose one ways."

No one is. I'm not suggesting that I (or anyone) have the authority to force you to be silent. None of us own the place. You have every right to post whatever photos you choose wherever you want. But that doesn't mean others can't disagree with your actions and try and explain to you why they think it is a mistake to do so.

Certainly they do, yes. No matter how much information about a location is out there, adding more will *ONLY* increase exposure.
Do not pretend that a motel on a back road and this are similar at all. There are how many similar motels in the US, 1500? And how many are abandoned, 200? How many places like this are there in the US, maybe 30 that are similar, probably only a couple in similar shape, but even then there are differences. This is a historic property which is worth a lot to save from even a little bit more vandalism.

i have used a lot of spray paint in my day. in fact, in 1987, i painted my 84 toyota 4x4 camo... but not regular camo, i used sexy girl cut-out stencils. it was epic cool and was the talk of the mud bogs.
