A week of exploration- (I am lazy and this is around 4 weeks old)-very pic heavy

Here are some pics I got from my spelunking over spring break in late march, the first few are from a quarry that Gasmasque and I went to in the dead of night, and the limitations of my camera gear were exposed. The next one is from a former Cone mills plant in western NC that is being demolished, though the dam and an entire room of machinery are still intact. Next up is a partially demolished furniture factory that burned down that I discovered on my train adventures, that one was particularly hairy because of the lovely pooches that were in the lower area of the complex, after that on the same day, hootie, gasmasque, and I toured a very familiar reform school, and some "ghost hunter" wanker messed things up for everyone by attracting security to the site, it doesn't help that he even parked on the property with his big dualie ford with a trailer in tow. and finally, I checked out a local logging operation, and I ran around the remains of a once beautiful forest that will soon become bastardized subdivision, it was active that day as well, making it ten times more interesting. Oh well, cheers, enjoy!

1. A long exposure taken at the quarry, a wee bit noisey....

2. Gasmasque

3.It was very tempting to go in there

4. The partially demolished cone mills plant

5. Those buildings are only a fraction of what used to be here, from what I have heard...

6. -note the door still attached to the third story of the warehouse, hanging on by the track.

7.There were no stairs, or ladders, so there was no way to reasonably get up to the roof unless you climbed......

8. .....this, I decided that would probably not be the best thing to climb.

9. The two buildings were quite empty and only had the occasional lonely barrel

10. It would have been great to visit this place before they tore down the majority of it.

11.This building had running machinery inside the top floor, and a much more interesting experience on the inside, as well as a killer view of the dam.

12. *see here: killer view of dam

13. I wonder what those pipes were used for, maybe overflow from the dam?

14. There was a ton of this stuff lying around

15. This was probably the coolest place in the whole complex, there was a ton of what I think are furnaces in this room, and now that the upper complex adjoining this building is gone, tons of mud has seeped in, leaving anyone who ventures inside with muddy boots.

16.

17.

18. taken on our way out

19. This guy spotted us, and we decided it was a good time to leave, especially after he hovered over us, revealing the word patrol on his underside. So I waved to him, and we went on our way.

20. Here is the furniture factory, it was tricky to enter, considering that the pooch patrol could turn noisey or pop out of nowhere at any given moment.

21.There was not too much left to this half of it, and this was the only side of the complex that we went to, so there is potential for a second visit.

22. I had to resist the temptation to climb this, maybe some other time, preferably at night.

23. I found the large amount of taillights in the building odd...

24. First in flight

25. We photographed the paint off this car...

26. I love the clock that is on the interior.

27.

28.

29. A lovely fungal interior in this half of a cadillac

30. I don't guess anyone has ever been here before?

31. Dat bed

32.

33.

34. Still quite playable

35. A congregation

36. Here is the logging operation, just a mile or so from where I live, not your typical urbex, but I did go beyond the no trespassing signs, so it counts in my book.

37. all kinds of mechanical monstrosities out here.

38. A shame

39. and this concludes my photo spamming....

Thanks for looking, It was a great week, thanks hootie and gasmasque for coming with me to some of these places! You folks are awesome

Nice. Careful on those trains. Elevators are safer.

Very cool. So they're sending helicopters after us now?

My sincerest apologies for any photography sins that I may commit, but you must understand that I have no idea what I'm doing.

those old textile mills are becoming rare, assholes, arsonist and authority are knocking them down, and they are after the old brick to put in gardens and new houses for decor, the old wood as well.
Entire towns nearly abandon when they sold our our industry to china in the mid to late 90s, Lawndale, Caroleen, High Shoals, etc. Dozens of mill towns in western NC/SC built around the mills. Some of those mills were over 150 years old, built in layers mill on top of mill. I found one you could crawl through a tunnel and it came out in a mud floor room, the foundation and bricked up windows of the old mill, along with the cast iron gears, still preserved under the new(er) mill.
Most of the early mills were sweat shops, but not all, some had traditions of paying a living wage, I was told the mills in Caroleen/Avondale/Henrietta paid up to $18/hr, 5 days a week, back in the 90s when money was worth something.
I work what is statistically the most dangerous civilian job in America, after 11 years and make the same thing..........but i get the overtime.

The nightmare corpse-city of R'lyeh…was built in measureless eons behind history by the vast, loathsome shapes that seeped down from the dark stars. There lay great Cthulhu and his hordes, hidden in green slimy vaults.

Couple good trips to Cone, Including the (albeit skewed), history lesson from officer Friendly and a fantastic start to spring break ...enjoying your take on some great locations. Was lots of fun...summer is on it's way. Let me know when you two are ready to head out again.
