My trip to Frisco's Beautiful Disaster/The Abandoned House Graveyard

Have a bit of history with this place. The house in its original location was part of what started the whole exploring thing for me, given that I passed by it anytime my parents took me anywhere (this was 7th through early 8th grade, so about 6 1/2 to 7 years ago). I was utterly fascinated by it, and the secrets it contained inside. However, distance kept me away, and I knew the writing was on the wall for the place once the rode nearby was widened. I had seen other houses like it in the area torn down, and surely the day of reckoning was coming soon, considering the proximity to my middle school. Yet something strange happened one day. As I was on the bus home from HS, I saw it lifted onto one of those house mover things, and after that day it was gone. Years went by, and every now and then I would try and find info on the place, to no avail. Even people who live in the area have no clue what I'm talking about when I mention the place, despite how close it was. The city was no help either, as they claimed it was demolished. Yet as luck would have it, random searching through the database led me to it. So of course I had to go check it out, and see what has changed since 7 long years ago.

The location itself is absolutely surreal. About a dozen or so abandoned houses, all waiting to be sold to a new owner. If someone was trying to design a playground targeted to urban explorers, it would probably look something like this. The surreality was aided by a friendly visitor under the green house above:

Yes, that is a peacock. Said house was painted almost as flamboyantly both inside and out, albeit with a lot less taste. Only good thing about this place was the unusual cleanliness of the bathroom.

Part two will be up in a bit...

The 2nd house we visited was the one that brought me to this place, the one that brought out the explorer in me oh so many years ago. Weirdly, this place looks much better then when I last saw it. Especially without that hideous porch and crumbling brick.

The infamous sex dragon:

What is this architectural feature called? It was connecting two rooms and was situated above a closet.

3rd house we went into. Didn't explore the whole thing though because of some structural failings. Also found a yummy surprise on one of the shelves.

4th house and final house we went in. Got a date on this one, seems to have been abandoned the earlier part of last decade. Also, what looks like blood drops, but is probably something else.

Part 5. Some misc. images, and an aborted attempt to enter a particularly terrible house.

Strange place indeed. Why would anyone buy any of these houses I wonder.

Beats me, though Google maps indicates they've had some success as a couple houses have been moved once again.

Didn't realize that nail was even there until you pointed it out. I was more interested in the exasperated looking outlet on the right.

I loved seeing the Radio Shack security system sign.

That's like saying "This security system was probably designed and built by a bored kid, it may or may not work, proceed at your own risk; which could involve grave personal injury stemming from a person who isn't truly experienced with electronics"

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

Don't take this the wrong way but...that peacock is the coolest part of this entire post.

Everyone has an opinion......and that is alright......there are a lot of posts that I don't find very interesting......however, I see no need to make comments that imply that the OP has wasted my time with their thread.
I also find it funny that some people find it necessary to preface an insult with something like "Don't take this the wrong way...." Now, how exactly is it supposed to be taken?

I for one enjoyed your post.....haven't been by that place since my daughter moved back to Dallas; and, I've wondered if it was still there. I'd have loved to see the peacock, but, all I got was a very scared and upset baby turkey vulture! I took a few pic.s of it before I closed the door......then I thought better of that! I have owned birds, and momma birds can be VERY aggressive; sure would hate to be attacked by a protective momma vulture!!!

Thanks, Cheese007, I enjoyed the adventure!!!

...whither shall I wander, upstairs or downstairs or in my lady's chambers...

So Mr. Sex Dragon, we meet again!

When we stopped at the House Graveyard, Wings2Fly told me that this was the same house as Frisco's Beautiful Disaster. At first, I doubted her. Then we saw the infamous Sex Dragon.

Clearly you took this the wrong way. Abandoned shit is all well and good. BUT ITS A FUCKING PEACOCK! That's the coolest thing EVER! If I found a peacock at a location be it a house or a power plant...I would follow that damned thing and take photos of it, nevermind the location. That's SO COOL!

I hope that clears up the "how exactly" that is supposed to be taken. don't get your feathers ruffled (so many puns)over something minor like that because you took it the wrong way

Do you prefer the Java Green or the India Blue? Are they allowed in your city of residence?

Blue ones are amazing.
I'm not sure. I think they are but they just aren't common at all. I only know one person who had one and I've only seen them once in my life.

Yeah I didn't think you meant any harm by that comment Astro. Awkward phrasing on the internet almost never goes well though. I'm heading back to the location today so I'll see if the Peacock is still there. Weather is kinda shitty so not making any promises!

So no Peacock, but saw what might have been a Coyote entering a bush. No pics of that sadly. Got pics of three more houses though, which will be shown in order of least to most decay. This particular house, with some relatively minor prep-work, seems like it could be moved into tomorrow. Aside from the garage....

Abandoned since 08 if this is any indication.

Guess you could say they were a big FAN of ducks?! Ok I'll stop...

Yummy delicious!

In my haste I managed to not get an exterior shot of this one. That will be amended on a future visit. Interior was the highlight though, especially one room in particular.

Almost put me knee on this.

Date, 2004.

Found this giant wood strip full of nails in this room.

Now here's where things get interesting.

I can almost feel the pain this outlet is expressing.
